Well, they don't have degrees in meteorology, but Ben Gelber has a masters in the field. I'm not sure about Ganahl.

I think you're right. I think all you have to have is an NWA or AMS certificate to be considered a "meteorologist".

For my money, I would rather go back to the old days when they weather guy was an ex-DJ and and brought some bimbos along with him to do the weather. Bob Alan was a WCOL DJ who became the weather guy on Channel 6 in the 1970's. After that, he became the weather guy on Channel 9 in Cincinnati for many years.

Jerry Rasor was the longtime weatherman at Channel 4. He was known for stunts like having bimbos doing the weather with him on the set. When Avco sold out in the 1970's and changed from WLWC to WCMH, they went to having a "metorologist" and hired Jym Ganahl.

Jym is okay, but I miss the days of Jerry Rasor. I was just a kid, but could appreciate entertainment.

Here's a couple of rare old videos with Jerry Rasor from the late 1960's on WLWC:

I don't care who's on the sign, I will still watch channel 10 in the evenings until they get that hag Colleen Marshall off NBC. there's plenty of great talent in this city-Colleen is old and washed up. sub-par reporting at best for her age and what should be her ability. Colleen cant hold a candle to Andrea

Need to move Andrea & Jerry to that corner. Big glass window. Jerry puts on some weight, then gets lap band surgery and spends the rest of his days pretending to care who's from where in the crowd that's gathered around his sidewalk broadcast perimeter each morning. Andrea can buy natty hats, earmuffs, & gloves and sit outside with Jerry to broadcast the annual Victoria's Secret Thanksgiving Day Parade ... same with the ball drop from the LeVeque on New Year's Eve surrounded by a First Night crowd numbering in the hundreds.

Oh ... forgot. Columbus always looks silly trying to imitate NY.

Jym Ganahl laughs his way through every forcast.I always find out what the weather is in South Dakota or in Jym's home town in Iowa. Sometimes he even gets around to telling us what it will be in Columbus

Weathermen are the only profession you can be 80% inaccurate and still be employed. That makes the union jobs much much more reliable.

Folks,

There was an old saying in Columbus TV from the 1970s that went, "it takes 4 and 6 to make 10". I think Flippo the Clown use to say it on the Early Show as he browl-beat Dan Emmil everyday at 5:45PM. Of course he also called the 6:00PM news hour - "Eye-Witness Snooze" back then too. Ha!

Oh, the good old days of telling the truth on TV.

Q. Ch. 4, if you move the studio - will the news get better?

Sounds like someone is a chubby chaser! There are a lot of fatties in Columbus, so stop complaining. Not everyone in this city likes a woman that a clean out a Bob Evans in one sitting.

Since the TV media got so obsessed with the weather in the past ten years. When local TV starts getting buzzed up on snow or wind storm coverage, I turn the TV off and play a disc on my portable DVD player.

Remember, that for a few months, Chan 4 had TWO weather clowns on the 6PM news.

ANS - Doubtful.

Several months ago the local TV stations started rolling out their High Definition newscasts. Funny thing though - the quality of the newscasts did not improve.

Eye Witness Snooze ?? Good One. I have long referred to the show as 'Eye Witless News'.

I remember that. They brought in Dave Trygar next to Jym. Jym looked pretty pissed during those months.
