They shouldve stopped the development that made 58 a disaster before it started. It looks like Route 110 now. The traffic is horrible so anything should be better than it is now. I make a point to avoid this stretch unless I have to, and do so early in the morning. Either way, there should be a moratorium on new development, existing dilapidated structures there could be developed but no more new stuff. Even though I dont think there is even any more land left west of the circle anyway.
Honestly what is wrong with development in a heavily congested area? IMO stores should be grouped togeter to perserve other areas from the typical StripMall every mile mentallity seen through the rest of the ISland. You can avoid it by staying north on sound av well untill development stops on CR58 and we strip mall Sound Av. I dont know why people complain about everything. CR58 is now Riverhead Central, a Huge Town that needs a roadway to access it.

The 11' to me is problematic though. Belt Parkway anyone.

Good Thing we zoned the land all around the Peconic Bay Medical Center/Central Suffolk Hospital for all the krapshoppes and fast food peddlers, because without the Burger King, Kentucky Fried Buzzard, Pizza Rut, Jiffy Lube, Friendly's, Dunkin' Donuts, and all the others your ambulance might otherwise get you to the hospital in time to continue breathing. Would you like to 'Super-Size' your Funeral ?
I showed my mommy what you said and she asked me to ask you something...she says that behind where KFC and frindlys and car wash is there use to be what she called...high tension towers and wires in a field there but she said they just like went poof years ago...they disapperared and everyone she asked what happened to them they tell her they dunno....

the real issue here is all of the towns zoning. The towns zone the area for as much business as they can without any real thought of how it will interact with people getting to this business. That is the issue with Long Island, no real planning, no real thought. The only one who had and fore thought was Robert Moses. Now you can't build anything because of everybody not in my back yard. Dont' forget about the idiots who buy a house next to a busy road then want the taxpayers to pay for sound walls because of the noise of the busy road that they bought near. Why do you think that the house was so cheap.

That old Power Line ran east and was out of date so Lilco tore it out long ago. Lilco, you can remind her, expected to construct 6 nuclear power plants on the property they bought in Jamesport on L.I. Sound. They did run new power lines out back then because they anticipated needing them to construct all those plants, before the public outcry shut them down.

If you want high speeds build wide lanes. 13-15 feet is freeway standard.

The real question is if the 5th lane ran through Ed Burke's house, would the extra fumes add to his dementia or would the Kool-aid protect him?

I lived on 58 in 1970 and they needed it to be 5 lanes then. They need to build it like US 19 in Clearwater as a Limited access road with a servive road and Exits only at Northville Tpk., Roanoke Ave, Mill Road and of Course The ends on both sides. Also they need to suspend building any more shopping centers.
Whie they are at it they need to extend the LIE out to Greenport and also a Spur to Sunrise for the South Fork
