Someone should also look into the Smithtown School DIstrict also. High School East has ceiling collapsing, teachers falling through rotted out floors, The mold on the walls and windows is disgusting. And they have yet to pass Health Inspection this year. WHy is is that these schools Like Shoreham Wading RIver and Smithtown that we know of are allowed to be like this. I think that more parents need to open there eyes and get together and do something about this. These districts need to know that as Tax Payers we are not going to allow our Children to suffer this way.

Yup, the goats, geese and pigs are gone, and so is the broad that ran the farm.
Now SWR residents are going to have to pay the piper for the free ride they got for so many years. Johnny will have to drive a Hyundai (OH NOOOOOO), instead of the BMW and Mercedes that he use to. I never saw a student parking lot with so many luxury cars parked in it.

Wading River foreclosures are going to rise, taxes will jump 25% a year for each of the next 10 years.Typical property tax bill in that district will go to 15 to 20 thousand per year per home very soon, add that to your adjustable mortgage.

All the illegals in Brentwood need to start ponying up the dough!

Brentwood school district gets $200,000,000 in taxpayer funded state aid!! It's time for illegals to pay up or get out!!

No more freeloading off of the taxpayers dollar!!

As for Smithtown, property tax increases are at a minimum. Take a look at this:

http://www.longislandschools.com/districts/sm...

Now take a look at Brentwood schools and maybe it'll put things in perspective as to what happens when a school district goes to crap because of freeloaders and illegals:

Sounds like it's time to pay for all the extras they got. Don't cry, Shoreham-Wading River residents, now you will be like so many others and pay your share.

A contingency budget can only increase by the cost of living, which is about four percent. How did they get the tax rate up 25 percent?

It's interesting also that SWR's scores on standardized tests have dropped since the money disappeared. This case proves, I think, that money does make a difference in education, even though people always claim it doesn't.

Ahh, poor Shoreham-Wading River residents; no more computers in the bathrooms for while the students are in there, smoking weed?

What goes around comes around. Deal with it, like the rest of America.

PS: Thank all those protesters that kept the plant from opening.

The contingency budget is in no way limited by the cost of living increase although some folks mysteriously think it is. It is based on the previous year's budget among other factors. That is why the article pointed out that a 10% increase (below contingency) was considered but rejected. The district cannot raise taxes above the contingency rate which; of course, can be five times the rate of inflation (or more).
You may be confusing this with the now defunct 'austerity' budget.
By the way, where on earth was the superintendent in this article? I thought one of his/her functions was to communicate with the public.

and their taxes are coming in line with the rest of the island - about time I was able to stop subsidizing SWR - oh, it would have been to hard to remove the nuke plant all at once - well, they are still crying like babies, even though they took advantage of us all these years.

For years Shoreham-Wading River peoperty taxes were way less than every where else in Suffolk County. Taxes on a four bedroom house on the south shore are easily $11,000.00 or more. All due respect, the whole system is out of whack, Shoreham-Wading River has been getting a good break for years. The tax situation should be made more fair. Each district resident should pay the same amount for school taxes per square foot of residence. That would make for a more even playing field and reduce the huge swings everyone faces, and, oh yeah, school spending has to be reduced, period.

CUT costs!!!! Increase class size. Fire staff get rid of administrators and any assistants to them. They pad the payroll and do nothing for instruction of students. Schooling is just too expensive.

Whatever it cost, it cost! Always remember that its all for the kids. They are Shoreham Wading River's future. That's the kind of place that could produce the next president of the United States. LOL
