Isn't that the second or third fatal accident at that intersection? If so, why isn't more done to make it safer?

I live right behind Jack Gibbons and have seen many accidents at this intersection having lived here 19 years. I also know friends and family of two of the fatalities.
The cause is obvious, backing up traffic on a blind bend so why has nothing been down about it. It is effectively a dead mans curve, especially in bad weather.
This is unacceptable and something needs to be done.

You're a pretty pathetic liar there!

Do you need more practice?

If you really lived behind Jack Gibons, you'd be familiar with the "dead man's curve" and you'd know that plenty has already been done about that intersection.

Ever notice the sign in the northbound lane of Oak Park Avenue as it approaches 147th Street warning of the curve ahead? Or the speed limit sign warning you to slow down on that curve ahead?

That's your "something" that's been done right there.

There will never be enough signs or warnings to those who simply refuse to use common sense when they see them.

The county did work on that intersection but it is still mess. At least two people have died since they fixed it so obviously more needs to be done. After that young girl Jessica died I saw the county out their within a day or two looking it over So perhaps they have concerns as well Why can't they straighten out the road? Just run it through the edge of camp Sullivan. Up st 143rd they eliminated the curve.

And you don't need to be so friggin rude to others... This is a blog and people should be able to post their thoughts and opinions without someone jumping on them the wsy upu did, because of a difference of opinion

Don't take it personal. Obviously this is a response from one of our fine leaders. Doesn't look like they like it when people voice their displeasure.

If there were truly less accidents when the stop sign was there maybe it needs to go back up. One persons life is more important than a concern about a traffic jam if you ask me.

That is the County responsibility, and it is not due to the City of Oak Forest. I asked many police officers and found out that is due to belonging to County we need to really take it up with them, that intersection is crazy and very dangerous even with the Winter months coming up.

Maybe people should just slow down and take greater care when using the intersection .

Exactly! Pretty simple, right?

But people would rather blame the govt because there's only one stop light and only two signs posted coming northbound up to that turn.

"Let's just keep adding more signs and more street lights there every time somebody has an accident!"

Now if they put more signs and another stop light there, then these same people would be complaining about their taxes going up to pay for them.

Notice none of these people yappin' about how the city, etc should "do something" have said anything about the cause of the crash and whether or not MORE warnings there would have even prevented it. Was the person speeding? Was he distracted by a bird or a deer? Did his tire blow out? Was he drinking?

Nope!

"It's the government's fault for not spending more of our tax dollars with a 3rd or 4th layer of warnings coming up to the accident site!"

Read my name posters - and then start taking some.

Let's see if your name changes when one of your loved ones is the next fatality. I'll wait to hear from you on that.

I agree with you "lunie town." People like to talk and place blame and judge...until it happens to them. Shame on them! Yes, we all need to slow down and be aware of the surroundings and the environment, especially at dangerous spots, but ACCIDENTS happen!

I personally was driving at that intersection today and was almost hit by a driver not paying any attention to oncoming traffic. There definitely have been an accident had my friend not seen this first and warned me.

You'll hear from me on that RIGHT NOW.

Even if it was someone in my family that doesn't make it ANYBODY else's fault that he died on his motorcycle.

Got it yet?

Or do you need more time to formulate a more logical response?

There's plenty of warnings for northbound traffic approaching that intersection.

PERIOD!

Now why won't you answer some of the questions asked above: Was he distracted? Tire blow out? Heart attack? Was he drinking?

Do you even know? Or are you just assuming that because of the number of accidents there it COULDN'T POSSIBLY be the driver's fault?

When your heart is done bleeding and you're done pointing fingers, why don't you fill us in on all the details you know about the accident ... and then tell us what more SPECIFICALLY needs to be done by everybody else - without your taxes going up - so you don't complain?

I'll wait to hear from you on that.

So this almost-accident was due to HUMAN NEGLIGENCE and not due to the city, county or state government not doing enough?

Is that what you said there?

Thanks for helping me make my point.

Does it really matter if it was negligence that caused this accident? That seems like even more reason for the government to step up and do something. If he was impaired in some way that's another thing. How many laws do we have, how many regulations do companies have to follow in an attempt to compensate for people's stupidity? Plenty. Doesn't make it right or wrong but it does save lives and that should be the concern.

It seems that once the light went in the accidents started, it was fine before when we had the stop sign, the traffic moved faster. If you are not familiar with the curve it can be scary to drive through there. I can say that curve makes me nervous every time I drive through there because you cant see whats coming around the other way.
