Mayor Dave Bing to seek Detroit council's approval to impose 10% pay cuts on unions

Mayor Dave Bing's administration will ask the Detroit City Council on Tuesday to approve a plan to impose a 10% wage cut on about 600 union workers beginning Feb.

This 10% wage cut is not really a 10% savings. The plan achieves the supposed 10% cut by forcing furlough days of 10%. So the city does not get the same amount of work for 10% less. They get at least 10% less work for 10% less pay. If they did not need those hours of work, then they don't need as many employees. The city is not required to keep so many employees. If they are not needed, lay off 10% and save on the benefits those workers have as well.

Bing only pretends to be moving forward. The logic he displays in this crisis explains why his business failed too.

If living there means sleeping there, I don't.

If living there also means spending time there, I'm trapped into taking care of "bidness" at the court.
