I remember Mrs Dobis, my 1st grade teacher. Probably my favorite teacher ever. I also remember Mr. Sims teaching gym. Some classmates were Rick McGuffie, Karen Forton, Daniel Bailey, Douglas Washington.

I remember IVES also. I attended K-6 1966-1973.
A couple of the other teachers at that time were, Mr. Gus (science), Mrs. Ballinus (principal), Mr. Wolf (assistant principal), Mrs. Champine (4th grade), Mrs. Dow (6th grade), Mr. Szumanski (math). I probably haven't spelled these names even close to what they should be.

I remember in the 5th or 6th grade they celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the school. I think I still have a little booklet that they gave us. I'll see if I can find it, and dig up some more names.

The teachers I remember at IVES ELEM.:
Mrs. Sullivan - Social Studies (God helps them who help themselves -- but, God HELP THEM WHO HELP THEMSELVES !!) She also bragged on her asparagus.
Ms. McKenzie - Gym (Always in culottes)(Florida during Christmas break)
Ms. Quinlan (Mrs White)- Literature (In her class the morning we heard of the Normandie landings - June 6th, 1944)
Ms. Giesler - Homeroom 6th?
Ms. Beaton - Homeroom 8th
Ms. Lennox - Principal (Long black dresses with a lace collar)
Mr Frank Reno - Principal
Ms. LaFontaine - Auditorium
Ms. Jefferys - Music
Playing ball in the schoolyard. NO SLIDING in baseball. Too many cinders. NO HARDBALL yard was too small. Ho Ho Once we were playing hardball with just four guys. A pitcher, catcher, batter and outfielder. I hit a foul ball and it careened into one of the second floor windows, about where the fifth grade homeroom was. Somebody told on me and I was in Mr. Reno's office the next day. Can't remember if my parents had to pay for that window or not.
Digging in the jumping pits during the summer - lots of sand down to about three feet.
I lived right next door to the school on the north side.
Neighborhood kids were, Bruce Foster, Richard Harrison, Marvin Burke. The Breen family, but they went to St Ambrose over on Alter. Dwayne Kreutzan, Bob Truman, Betsey Ross, Shirley Mc?, Dolores, Howard, Sal and his sister, Kathleen Beam.
Serving as Safety Patrol down at Marlboro and Jefferson. Blocking Manistique Street to conduct 100 yard dashes. The coolness of the lavarories down in the basement in the summer. No air conditioning then except at the movies. Lakewood and Cinderella theaters. Saunders ice cream sodas and candy across from the Lakewood.
More later.

Never went to Ives but born and raised directly across the street at 1144 Manistique. Parents moved in 1964. I remember either sitting on my porch or on the school steps waiting for kids to show up to play whatever sport for that season.Best friend was Bob Lapp.knew Marino's,Cowrie's, Kelly's and more.Playing indian ball and when playing softball, anything to the right of the downspout was OUT,or on the roof was out. Miss the memories.

I lived at 1205 manistique. Just west of Ives. I don't remember your name but in 1964 I would have been 8 and attending St. Ambrose Elementary School. Wayne, Mike and Gary Miller lived next door to me.

I went to Ives as well from 1964 to about 69. Wahat a great place. Mrs. Ballus ...so correct and nice... Mr. Avery with his Mummy... who scare us with it.. and yes he did not like Nazai's or World war II..... I remember a kid who wore an Iron Cross to school and Mr. Avery lost it! Ah no more Ives School.. I drove by there about 1 year ago ..just a blank space. A Gregg Gumm ..always tried to bully me!!
