I was raised in the Melville House Boy's home on Long Island due to abuse. I know abuse! I was beat with a stick with a nail on it. I was whipped with an extension cord. I was told that I was hated. This story smells to me. I do not believe this boy was abused. I believe the father was over-zealous in making his son physically fit, but I'm not sure that making a kid perform physical acts that only improve his health is not abuse. Was he doing sit-ups with a herniated disk? Was he doing pushups with a strained/broken arm? Was he forced to do jumping jacks with a torn ACL?

It seems to me, that this is a lazy fat kid who did not appreciate what his father was doing for/to him. The boy likely preferred to play video games than train.

I 'forced' my children to learn two musical instruments. They hated it music, but I forced them. Between the 3, they play the piano, flute, clarinet, trombone, euphonium, trumpet, and bass guitar.

I also forced my children to participate in one individual sport, and one team sport from the 4th grade to HS graduation. These activities teach the intangibles, personal responsibility, and group accountability. So, I guess I am also abusive. We have one child playing Div II tennis and majoring in nursing. Another playing Div I football and majoring in Business Law. And, another headed to Harvard.

Obviously your definition of abuse differs from what normal people would call it. What constitutes abuse doesn't have to include torture devices like boards with nails on them or being whipped with cords until you beg God to kill you. Dude! You are wrong in so many ways! Listen at this Sir! The damage has already been done! What you created with your human balls of clay are world class athletes that have
deep resentment towards authority figures and are probably in need of extensive psycho therapy. As for your Harvard Law Kid, God bless him for reaching for the stars. As for you dude!
I pray you stay out of your Grandchildren's lives! You CRAZY MAN!

I project well under an hour for the whole workout. Figure 15" for the pushups, jacks and curls. A slow pace on the elliptical would be 60RPM or 16" per thousand. That leaves the rest of the day to hang out under the stairs.
