If it would have been given to state an annual "$10 fee is required to go on there.no rocket science is involved.detroit cant hardly take care of city affairs let alone parks. However people look at this a state park would be ideal for belle isle considering current economic affairs.detroit could focus on important issues

The state was about to invest $11 million in infrastructure improvements to the park and handle expenses going forward that would save the city $6.8 million annually. City Council rejected it for various reasons. They did not want outsider participation. They did not want to give away the city's jewel. And more uneducated than that, they professed distrust of the state in not promising MORE improvements in later years, despite the fact that nothing has been done to the park in years and big parts of it are closed down.

If the city did actually begin to manage the park and charge something like $2-3 per car for entry, they would soon eclipse the money that the state was talking about with the standard park fee. They would have a profit to squander. And they would squander it and the citizens would end up paying more for the park experience, but they would be happy!
