Belle Isle is a tremendous asset. As a park, it's not an asset. It's just a break even proposition at best. If they go the state route, the possibility of private development is off the table. Forget about the 10 year down the road opt-out option.

Detroit could charge for entry to the island and have money to maintain it. They have resisted doing so all this time. If they sign the state deal, that's essentially what they will be doing without the control.

They really should privatize the island and make money from it. Let the vagrants drink from paper bags on regular city streets.

Apparently you haven't learned much. The money ends up in the deep pockets of the corrupt politicians. Ficano needs more money to add more assistants on his payroll. 100+ isn't near enough.

You are right. I do not understand how Ficano plays into this. There's very little tax money from Belle Isle as it stands. There would be county property taxes if it were privatized so maybe that's the link you imagine. Nothing will happen for a long time and by then Ficano could be in prison if we are fortunate. Research would suggest that graft and corruption were even greater when McNamara and BERNARD KILPATRICK were running it.

And ficano should not be allowed to pick any bored members for airport! That would have been like Nixon picking cabinet members during his demise. Anything he does just has no true meaning worth admiring. McNamara was bad enough near the end. Hopefully this will give voters reason to scrutinize who they vote for now!these positions should not be taken lightly.

Scrutinize and voters are oil and water. Most voters choose based on one issue or one party. Most voters are too damn lazy to scrutinize candidates. If they are pro-life or anti-abortion, they get voted. Forget all the other qualities which may be bad for the economy or people, he/she is pro/anti abortion or pro/anti gun. Simply put, most people are idiots and as a whole, the average IQ in this country has dropped about 20 points.

To add, the elective system sucks. The lesser of two evils choice drastically hurts us. Abolishing party affiliation will help eliminate the two idiotic parties who got us into this mess in the first place and yet, people still believe it is they who will get us out. LMFOA!

This nation is filled with a bunch of weak lazy simpleminded lemmings and the government loves it and feeds from it.

NEWSFLASH
Robert Ficano has NOT been charged with anything. He's an elected public official and has the right and duty to perform his job regardless of your written spanking. You will be free to cast your vote next election.
