You want cheap or merely low class? Because if you just want low class, anything around is suitable.

Detroit alone is 139 square miles. The Detroit area is hundreds of square miles. You do yourself a dis-service by not being more specific as to neighborhood or street intersections. If your husband works "over there" then say where "over there" is. Is your husband blind or could he just look around as he is commuting to "over there." What's he doing now, just standing around between jobs or driving all the way back home? On the west side there are many fleabag hotels along Ford and Michigan Ave. that have weekly/monthly rentals. Most motels offer this and some have efficiency setups allowing some cooking. Even the dumps are probably all searchable online now.

The Internet is full of lonely desperate people eager to participate in life in the only way they have found. That is to exercise their right to type something, anything. If they can only put down a thought to a now non-existent poster, so be it. It's not unlike sending a time capsule out in space. Nobody will ever see it again.
