The pods were built where they sit with the idea that they would be moved the short distance to the proposed jail. The move to Mound Road will be a more expensive one if that option is chosen.
Each dual cell cost $50,000 or $25K per inmate. That only includes the tiny cell. Other jailing costs would be greater. It costs more to detain a prisoner than I spend living.
Still, this amounts to 200 cells total. This is probably two small of a number to design into the revisions at Mound Road. The Mound Road redo needs to be studied very quickly to see if this type of cell will be usable. If so, these could be moved there now and the crew could construct more on the new site to complete a plan. That's the problem. Plans are never completed in full nor executed to plan.
My mantra is "When in doubt, don't." If these cells don't readily fit, don't try to fit a square peg into a round hole. Scrap them out for salvage.
