Agree with the comments -- the Lutheran churches should stay out of it. So should the "Rev." Jesse Jackson. Christians believe in changing hearts, souls, and minds one at a time with the Word of God, not politicking and "rallying".

Detroit has its problems -- major problems. All the government aid to residents and city have not helped. Having a casino hasn't changed urban blight either. If anything, it has been the receiving organ of many government funds through the recipients of those funds.

One cannot build a Renaissance around the pampered world of professional sports.

Urban renewal can come only through jobs, pride in one's home, neighborhood and city, and through strong neighborhoods filled with people with high morals and respect for the law. It may take the government to help set that in motion. But any city that cannot get along with the state and federal government is in a world of hurt. Detroit is certainly not alone.

Churches play a part in this, but not the part of politicking and demonstrating. They have God's Word to preach, focusing on God's love in Jesus Christ who came to die on the cross for our sins and thereby make us new people. Lutherans, get busy with what God told you to do.

render unto Cesar the things that are Cesars and unto god the things that are gods.

churches need to focus on matters of the church and leave the state to mismanage the affairs of state.

where in the hell where the areas churches protesting when blacks burned, looted, Detroit in the 70's.

no church or community leaders protesting the large numbers armed robberies, rapes, shootings random acts of violence in the area by the people of the area , why not????

saw no churches protesting or holding vigils when black babies were shot to death in cribs by black drug dealers doing drive bys or while drug deals went bad..

why wasn't the churches of the area collecting the guns taking them off the streets to protect the unarmed black citizens of the area.

saw not one black church leader out preaching to da black drug gangs on the streets about the need to end violence heaped on the black community by black people.

black people killing and eating their own????

Black self destruction?? to what end??

Angelo Henderson was out there going door to door with the Detroit 300. They were dishing out their own brand of violence against innocent people in their homes. Some they literally dragged out and with the participation of black chief Godbee at the time, denied their rights with illegal arrests and interrogation. Lawsuits are still pending.

And other black preachers have advocated burning the city down again if they don't get their way. They said it. Then when the media pressed them on it and criminal threat charges were looming, they reworded their statements. We are aware of the inclination of the black pulpit.
