Detroit isn't fixable as now constituted.

I admire Dave Bing for trying the job a mayor but he was dealt a read bad hand or should have sat this hand (Detroit) out. It's not fixable.

The fix for Detroit is to bring in non union jobs in MFG , product assembly, distribution, Tech services, there are lots of possibilities for attracting industry to Detroit if the business climate and mind set of the city and state become business pro

(not cars or car related cause that will fail because of union involvement as history of Michigan and Detroit has shown ).

reduce federal state county and city permits, licenses cost , paper works, fees, city inspector bribes, taxes etc so those businesses can earn a profit, employee people contribute to the city in lower taxes.

No retail at all, low income blacks have demonstrated all over America they are not mature or responsible enough to live around retail business with out repeatedly robbing stores stealing from them, running them out of business by theft or burning them down.

See south side of Chicago as another Detroit in the making.

there is no point of pouring more any money into Detroit until the mind set and attitude toward business changes.

Business is the engine that fuels the resurgence
of any city.

Remember that axiom from business economics

" WHAT YOU TAX YOU GET LESS OF, WHAT YOU SUBSIDIZE YOU GET MORE OF"

now look around Detroit and the state of Michigan
you see the results of 53 years of too many taxes and too many give a ways.

Most of what you posted seems true. I like the concept of "no retail" for exactly your reasons. Many retail outlets now only come to Detroit to project and image of fairness while expecting and getting losses. It's really difficult to do business in Detroit. Sometimes the only way is to neglect permits and build anyway. That's no way to run a business though.
But everything has consequences. The new businesses attracted to Detroit would truly need to be new or from out of state. Creating more non-union jobs in Detroit at the expense of union jobs out of Detroit is a net loss to the state. And the labor pool in Detroit doesn't leave much to work with. You can steal from a manufacturing company as well. Thieves can take raw materials, trucks, tools and whatever.
Crime at all levels needs to be dealt with severely before people and business will ever return. Detroit has stopped reporting crime since February 3rd. Only a fraction of homicides are solved. Many felonies are never even reported, including rapes and grand theft. The prosecutor (Kim Worthy) routinely pleads down or refuses to bring charges unless there is a confession. Simple theft, larceny and minor assaults are reluctantly even written up. Criminals are dumb, but not so dumb that this word is not on the street.

your opening comment confirm what is widely known that the city administration is corrupt and need a fundamental change in attitude toward business if it is to survive.

First off open shop Jobs "JOBS" in the City are more important than Union jobs. Heck even GM opened a transmission plant In Mexico to save labor cost...

Unions have never built, invented anything, expanded an existing business , improved productivity, accepted labor saving improvements any where in America,

Just ask a former steel worker or twinkie worker. Check the history of unions in America.

The fact is everywhere unions are involved business slows down or fails.

I predict GM will fail for those historical based reasons,

of the three amigos, running this corporate mess The government has never run any thing profitable, efficiently, managing to control excessive employee growth or overhead cost.

the second amigo, Unions also have a track record of ruining business. Ask former steel workers rejecting labor saving improvements in production methods years ago , Am track , Post office, school teachers , or a twinkie production worker who would rather lose his job than take a pay cut.
Union mentally and thinking has forced many companies out of MI and the country.

the third amigo The GM mismanagement team is the same collective group of mismanagers who brought GM to bankruptcy court by ignoring competitive marketing, sales trends can consumers needs choices in cars for 30 years. I traded my gas guzzling, rusting 79 buick for a VW with no rust & twice the gas mileage

can't expect a leopard to change his quack can ya?

As I travel around the country ( as a consultant) I hear ads from various cities, states trying to recruit out of state business to that area.

Detroit could wipe the existing tax BS slate clean start over with less paper work. No taxes or much lower state country, and city taxes, no paper work , fees , permits ,no bribes to greedy city inspector, open shops no union recruitment area.

market Detroit and actually make Detroit a business friendly environment to attract business and jobs to the area.

Or Detroit can keep doing what it has been doing for the past 50 years and we can all see how well that's been working.
(Picture an ostrich here)

Ideas are a dime a dozen. Execution is the difficult part. Yes, that's what we need, more executions.

this same sad chain of event is happening on the south side of Chicago even as we speak.
Chicago black drug gangs are killing hundreds of black people every year with no law enforcement agencies investigating those homicides.

no one in official Chicago mismanagement agency city hall , no one in the black community , no one in city, county or state law enforcement cares about the wholesale slaughter of black people by black people.

what's up with dat??
