I have a friend who is considering Gastric Bypass Surgery. She has battled weight all of her adult life and I am happy for her but at the same time worried about her too. Is there anyone on this forum who has had this surgery or knows someone who has? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Go to google, then advanced, and ask your questions. Just type your question like you are talking to someone, such as.

What is gastric bypass surgery?
Is bypass surgery dangerous?
How long does a bypsss procedure last?

And any other question about this you would like to know. This way you get a professional answers.

That's like telling a crack addict to put the crack pipe down. Also, some people simply can't lose the weight by dieting their metabolism won't allow it. Skinny, you need to realize that dieting don't work for some.

Your friend might want to consider the lap band surgery. This is much less invasive than the gastric by-pass. They won't lose the weight as fast but they will lose weight. Dr. Woodman is now
performing this surgery in Jackson. His full name is George Woodman. He is great. This is done on an out patient basis. He did mine and I've done great! You don't have to take a lot of the vitamin
supplements with the lap band.

Skinny, you have no freaking clue what you are talking about. I know overweight people that eat half what "skinny" people eat...they have a metabolism or a disorder that prevents them from losing weight. Yes, some heavy people eat to much and do not exercise but there are some that have medical conditions as well. Medication for different problems also cause excessive weight gain.

To A FRIEND OF--they hold a free seminar at St, Josephs hospital for people interested in lap band or bypass.

Why would person like you even be surfing a subject like this? Obviously you have nothing better to do. Get a life! Let other people live theirs.

Honestly, I know very little about this. I would be worried more about long term. This is a newer surgery and there aren't people around that had the procedure 20+ years. I would advise your friend to try the lap band. From what I understand, it can be removed if so wished. Peace of mind is worth alot- so is being at peace with your body. Above all, be supportive to your friend.

note to skinny: if a person consumes that which you spoke, then the probability of weight gain is very high.

however, there are plenty of medical reasons for one to have weight gain even when they remain on a healthy diet.

and please never say never; you may one day eat your words and look in the mirror at a much larger you

well i am niether skinny nor big but there was a time i was huge! it was from overeating! i got a miracle pill from my dr called adipex and trust me the pounds will come off but if you don't learn how to eat right then there will never be success with weight loss and i do understand that some people can't shed weight easily but i was one of those people and i would not have surgery cause you could die!! i would rather be big and happy than leave my children without thier mother!
Well

Maybe you should've consumed a few more calories. If you had maybe your grammar would be better. I'm just saying!

the fat ox, It will never happen,I despise fat ppl and will never be one like you. You and all the other pigs keep thinking of excuses of why you are so fat and I will keep bumping into you at the all you can eat buffet. Don't take my word for it, all you have to do is open your eyes and you will see them stuffing their faces all the time. These ppl are looking for a quick fix to their obesity and as we all know that it is no quick fix,it didn't get on there over night and it is not comming off over night, push the plate and snacks away and you can too be slim and beautiful!

I surely understand how your statements sound. They are very familiar as to the exact words I would have or actually said 15 years ago. I never thought I would get over 115 pounds and thought even then I was overweight. Fat people disguested me to the fullest. Well Ms Karma got ahold of me for sure and I have always watched what I have ate and exercised. You see, without knowing I have severe thyroid problems that have just been disclosed to me. If I would have had the appropriate doctor I would not be this large. And no-I do exercise all the time and do push the plate away! So don't be a fool as I was because you will never know what is ahead of you in life and what just can happen. Besides, fat women need love too my husband says,LOL. I was just to shallow in my younger years to realize that and just how stupid and ignorant I was. Sounds like the old me and the now you have a lot in common. Both immature and ignorant!

I used to be too skinny at one point in time...but that is digressing.
If you will educate yourself on the liver and how harmones can destroy it, you will find out some other facts that include weight gain. As to stuffing oneself at a buffet, have you considered that one did not eat all day for one good stuffing?
Skinny, please examine your hatred. It sounds more like fear that you might just have that extra 50 pounds later on in life for whatever reason.
It is quite a shock to one's self to have any problems, whether it be a weight gain, permanent injury to the spine, amputations, brain damage, loss of sight, heart troubles, breathing troubles,,,whatever may come one's way. If one had been extremely active in the earlier years, one has much adjustment to adapt to whatever troubles life has.
So this "fat OX" will continue to try to impress that there are many other reasons for weight gain, or any disabilities. Encouragement of those who see the person within are blessings. Those too shallow of mind or spirit will "hate" all they want and be miserable.
There is One who can help change your attitude. Accepting Jesus as your Savior will have you wanting to be a changed person and be happy with the peace that DOES pass any understanding of a non-believer.

the person needs to be mentally stable before considering the surgery. I have yet to meet one woman that has had the surgery that has improved her life since the surgery. I know there are some that have but there at the prison they have a pool to guess how long before they get divorced or start sleeping with everyone, i have seen some good women end up more miserable than before the surgery. I am one of them, I have lost everything, my husband, my kids, i had to change jobs to try and get back to the real me, Be a good support person and Good Luck if you r friend goes through it

If one has this surgery, the the entire diet has to change to help prevent bowel obstruction...which can be frequent after gastric bypass or ringing off part of the stomach. That condition is painful, often requires more surgery, and can be fatal if not diagnosed correctly.

Skinny has it right, every time u see fat people they are stuffing their faces. They are all looking for the easy fix to their over eating problem. Yea, I know they all want to blame it on some medical problem and occasionally there is a medical problem but for the most part it is simply over eating. Push the damn plate away! Try this, put a mirror in front of you every time you eat anything and this will serve as a motivation for you and you will save a lot of money by not buying extra food and a huge medical bill.
