I do. Used to a popular place. But that was a long time ago. I remember Ben Franklin's, Shainberg's, Gutman's, Western Auto, and a bunch of those places. Sure were simpler days!

Remember Tiny Knee Park by the high school, with the big slide, swings?

Yes, what do you want to know? I remember that he didn't let the darkies in, do you remember that? I do remember a lot of good times there, always some young ladies there looking for some good clean fun, was you one of them?

I do too. Johnson Hamby and his wife, Catherine, owned it. Also the bowling lanes were across the street. Also the 3 picture shows on the square and the drive-in on West Webb Street. Then there was The Shack by Tiny Knee Field. Shainbergs used to be the Black and White Store. Ben Franklins was Harlan's 5 and 10 Cent Store. There was Libbys, Guttmans,Kroger, Baddours on the square and lots more like the Ice Plant across from the fire station. Had The Whistling Pig on 19 East. There are still lots more. Those were the good ole days.

I remember the skating rink. Who could forget it. It was a mint green painted building that sat where Mills now sits and behind it was a trailer park where mostly skanks and dirty-butts lived.

old times>>>>I am only 70 years young. The shack was up in the woods about where the south end of the high school is now, and Krogers was on the square about where the DA's office is now.

I remember the skating rink and the crowds that came! Some nights the floor was so crowded, there was barely room to skate. Crowded and noisy and fun!

And I remember the Double Decker Ice Cream Parlor on the square. I loved that place! And the theaters, the drive-in where mosquitoes ate us alive, and oh, the Christmas parades that made their way around the square. Those parades were things of magic to us children.

I love Ripley!

Yes, we had alot of good places to go and have alot of good fun. So, what the heck happen. Ripley don't have anything anymore. Guess the old dogs got tired of people having fun and made sure everything closed down or got run out of town. They are making sure we don't get anything in this town ever again. I feel sorry for the young folks with nothing to do but go out and get into trouble. It's a dang shame.

wat happened was - 1969 they intergrated RHS ,they started building low income housing projects, now whites moving from out of state pass Ripley by for better schools and less crime. Its only going to get worse,it has every year since 1968. Guess wat we're not getting a skating rink, but we're getting 40 more low income apartments. I wish I could move and take my family to Paris tn. RUN don't walk ' get the hell out of this hole!!

To "good once as I ever was": I disagree with your comment about low income projects. These have grown in every town.

The biggest issue is the lack of decent jobs! When I got out of high school there were factories all over Ripley and the county. Now, there ain't but a couple that do any real hiring.

We used to have the old pants factory, Universal Electric, S&R, TN Electroplating, TN Diecasting, Maremont, etc. Halls even had a few factories.

Now we have Marvin Windows & Komatsu & S&R (though they're a lot smaller). People used to be able to raise a family by working at a factory (b/c they had benefits too). People had pride that they could make a living w/o any government help.

Now with many jobs paying $8 an hour with no benefits (and some not full-time) people have to get on Food Stamps just to feed their family.

But as one person pointed out none of the people who could open a place for young people will do so 'cause they want to keep what they've got and to hell with Ripley.

It is a sad fact but it is true, a area with mostly poor ppl can never be anything but a dumping ground for more poor welfare recipients, as was said, we are getting more low income housing. In the last national election it was said over 47% are on some kind of assistance and here in Ripley it is over 75% as stated in the local paper a few years ago.(now that does include social security)

I don't think so, according to the darkies and the white women that bed with them, any time a woman has a child with a darkie or a female darkie has a child with a white they allways list the child during any kind of regestration as white, so according to them our president is white. Now even you know that is a fact.
