Whats it going to take to get the homeless panhandlers off of Washington Street ? Great thing for people to see a 12 million dollar square then have to ride down skid row on Washington. Panhandlers and bums drive property values down. I am sure the city has an ordinance on the books against soliciting. Heres a tip . If you are homeless bum a ride to a town with jobs

No I am very realistic. You cant make a few people pay high property taxes on real estate to keep the city's bills paid and have a bunch of vagrants hanging around not contributing anything. I have my doubts that they are begging for food money. Pepper you need to buy an expensive home and get a 3 or 4 thousand dollar tax bill then see this clown standing on the corner and see how you like it. About 10 percent of Ripley is paying for the other 90 percents way. If you dont like it you can kiss my arse

It's the truth, I know exactly which guy he is talking about & there is a law against it & the police ride by him all day. I have been behind police officers that just keep on rolling. I'm sure your talking about the same guy who also stands in the middle of Washington down below the old hickory pit at the red light before you go under hwy 19 bridge toward Henning. I saw him the other day standing on the corner of Lackey Lane & I have also seen him with my own two eyes buy a sack of weed from someone at the gas station next to the old hickory pit, not an employee of the gas station, from someone who met him there, oh yeah he has a cell phone also go figure. So really what does he do with his begged for $? I know, buy more weed. This is not being rude it is a fact. My wife & I both watched the whole deal go down and before anyone says why didn't you call the police, I will tell ya why, because they have to see it with their own eyes, they can't go by what someone tells them & by the time I would have made the call & a police officer actually show up he would have been long gone anyway as it took less than a minute for the transaction to go down. Just a normal everyday hand over the money here is your weed & the car rolled out then he walked behind the gas station through the trees & made his way under the tunnel into rice park.

And while you are talking about rude I think it is rude of someone that doesnt live here to stand on our streets and beg for a handout. I would gladly buy them a bus ticket any where they wanted to go and most of the project leaches too. There are people living in government housing that have stone gardens and fountains. If they have extra money for such luxuries then move out. Why do we owe someone a place to live ?

Most people are poor because of generations of drug and alcohol abuse or no one can commit to a job. We have generations that are living in government housing. Someone somewhere in the family should break the cycle. Some are just pure lazy and I for 1 am tired of it

I hope the town has not sunk so low that this is the new normal. That we are supposed to accept this type of behavior or risk being politically correct. Whatever happened to folks making their own way with real jobs . By the way I love his Polo boots he wears too. Maybe we all need to find a corner

Maybe the guy isn't homeless....Did you ask him his address? He might work and just chooses to dress that way.

I can read, so if his sign says Homeless, will work blah blah blah. It's kind of stupid to ask him if he is homeless. Besides if I talk to him he may actually think I'm going to give him some $! Nope! Speaking of the polo boots that's like the guy I saw holding the sign down on Union the other day in Memphis with a $100 dollar pair of clean fresh out the box Nike Shox on. Gimmie a break.

Ripley is on it's way down hill, the city, the county, the law, bow to the worthless porch monkeys, and let them get away with everything including murder, bottom line intill the city and county get some fresh blood in the office and new cops ripley and the county will continue to go down hill,

Dont think any personel offices are on the corner of Lackey Lane. You really look like you are looking for a job with a shirt that you tore yourself and a clocky attitude. He needs to be told to leave town. Shows he doesnt want a job to light in a town with 25 % unemployment. I am calling city hall today to get him moved. I hope no one else gives him money

you shouldn't be too quick to judge people. you don't know what has happened in this man's life that led him to be doing what he is doing. I say that if I were in his shoes, I would want to be where there are people with money if I were looking for work around here. Someone that has money will pay people to do little odd and end jobs. If he can't get a job at a factory or wherever because he probably doesn't have transportation then he is probably doing what he has to do. Don't judge anyone until you have walked in there shoes.

I ain't judging I saw the guy buy dope! Period end of it. Read the previous post. Besides there is a law that says you can't stand there like that, panhandling or whatever they call it. It's against the law but what does this town know about upholding the law right?

This guy has been doing this for months and months. I have seen him and others standing at both these places asking for hand-outs. I have also seen this guy going in and out of the Old Walker Motor Court Motel. I think that is where he lives. There are also others that live there that i have seen all over Ripley asking for hand-outs. They do it in Wal-Mart and in the parking lot and up at the E.W. James and Fred's parking lot. I have never given them anything but, i do see alot of people giving them money. This does need to be stopped. Alot of people here in this county can't afford food or gas but, you don't see them standing on street corners. I think these guys are doing it just to buy drugs.

It is never a good idea to trust someone who says landlord won't let him live there. Dont give me the crap about how bad his life may have been. It is his choice how he turns out
