I can remember back to the 1950's. Had friends lived next to and across the street from it. It was just a vacant lot. I think the children started playing basketball on it and it grew from there. A litte would be done to it at a time and then the city decided to make it what it is today. I don't think there is a lot of history to it, but it's a nice place for people to meet and have fun.

A friend who lived on Cleveland back in the day said it was donated by the same Mr. Rice who donated Rice Park to the city. He wanted to donate a park for blacks and a park for whites, or so I was told.
