When is the next election? I don't know why they've ever bothered with having one if the same people will keep getting elected. Personally I don't care what color they are as long as they do what they are suppose to do.
Im so there

This town has definately got to have some changes made. Our mayor and chief are not doing the job. Needs to be someone born, raised here and cares about the city. Someone that wants it to be the place it used to be... before those two took over. Ripley has potential and alot of good people. Its time for the middle aged folks to begin stepping up and getting a hold of things so it will be a good place for our children to live in. Everyone needs to start by praying for Ripley to have leaders come out of the woodworks to make this a better place.

Who cares anymore? Look at what all the dumb rednecks and "inner city" of Ripley elected Sheriff there. So what makes anyone think that something better would be the Chief of Police. Lauderdale County and its county seat deserve a "true" representation of its people in those two offices and those two represent you so well. Shut your crying up.

The City Board fires the Chief, not Pavletic. I asked.
Alonzo is kin to Landus. Believe Rita is kin to both...but stand corrected on that.
I do not know the hiring procedures for the officers for the police department, but perhaps it might not be a bad idea to find out, given the recent bad publicity. One can be sure, there is no investigative reporting from the Enterprise. They expect the news to be brought to them. They have no time to go get the news and they are not paid to go out. Klutts could care less. He surely won't go out himself.
Jay Heath at least goes to board meetings and as many functions as he can for reporting for the Voice.
Landus did have fairly good background when he came what with his Texas Ranger, educational background, etc. But I can tell you, his people-to-people stinks. My little boy took him some ribs John had just taken off the grill to be neighborly. He was SO RUDE that he put Daniel to tears. Right then I knew we had the wrong one and a bad apple to spoil the force. How dare a chief make a little boy cry.
Now with my complaint, he insists that I come to him??? He may find my complaint all over the papers. He got the verbal of it, he needs to take care of it.

How much money is pay to the police chief. If they are not going to do something they need to make him do his job .The chiefs in henning/ gates/ halls all work a shift and go on calls. If the city is going to keep paying him he needs to work a shift and answer calls.

To become a police officer, you must complete 10 weeks of training at the Law Enforcement Training Academy in Nashville, to become post certified, yes you have to take a psyc. evaluation. When someone applies with a department, and they are not post certified, it is up to the dept to send them if they want to take on that responsibility. They must do inservice every year (I think its 4 times a year)...they have to go through a background check and yes, they must pass a drugscreen before they are hired.

Michelle, if my health stayed stable, I would. I can not count on being able to be up a full day. I am grateful for the time I am up and doing.

If a police officer has to have certified training and a psychiatric evaluation as posted, does the Police Chief have to also?

I also saw no mention of a drug test. Is this required?

How much does the Police Chief make? What kind of perks does he get? Does he pull a shift like all the other police officers?

Maybe he should assign himself the role of ticket giver. Some of RPD's police officers must be almighty tired of doing this. They could use some relief.

He could look at it this way. The more tickets I write, the more money I'll get.

Of course, this would take him away from his regular duties. Some would be counseling his department's officers on when and how to make an arrest. Inform them that a citizen's civil rights must not be broken. Explain to them in no uncertain terms that they must set an example of morality for this city and its citizens.

They must always serve and protect. This is what is expected of them by the citizens and him also.

Tell them their first loyalty is to this city. And they must hold themselves up to be a shining example like he does and will ever do.
