Did anyone go to the big singing contest last night at the Tomato Festival? There was some really good talent, but I do not think the judges picked the right winner at all. Of course, Steven Whitson won, big surprise there. I don't think he should have placed. Rumor has it that he was really good friends with two of the judges, which wouldn't surprise me. If you only win in local contests where you know the judges, and never make it to the next level, let's you know there is something funny going on. There were a few there we were sure would place, but only the second place winner was who we predicted. I think they should select only local people to represent 97.3 and not pick people from Illionis and clear across the state. It was a waste of their time to come all this way. I think it should be for amatures, not people with headlining shows. I am not being mean, but if you have opened up for Blake Shelton, Trick Pony, Big and Rich, etc, and don't have a contract yet, maybe you should invest mommy and daddy's money into something else. Tonight was a shame, because 97.3 could have sent a potential winner to the state contest, but once again, they let local people be judges.

Did they even have any tomatoes there this year? The past 3 years they have not had ANY for sale. My parents drove 2 hours one year to buy tomatoes and NONE...Why call it a tomatoe festival?

they had tomatoes for sale....apparently had some votes for sale too because the people with good, raw talent were not selected. It is all about who knows who in these contests. It is such a shame

I didn't know any of the cointestants personally, just my family and friends like to watch talent shows, and we are usually right on the predictions. Hell, even his family members came up to us and told us who to cheer for and we didn't know him from Adam, so, take up for a biased vote if you want to. I was just stating my opinion, and you have very rudely stated yours. I just know good talent when I see it.

The Chamber of commerce did not have anything to do with the talent presented at the country showdown. The tomato festival was only the venue at which the contest was held. There was only one local judge for the event, who has extensive musical training. The other two judges were from out of town, and also had music abilities. I personnally thought the show, had some great talent and wish each of the contestants luck in their future endevers. I am sure we will see some of these young people again. The contest being held in Ripley TN was a boost to the tomato festial attendance and also for our local economy.

There was a ton of tomatos at the festival this year, and all along the main highway 51, as well as the new farmers market. They sold out of tomatos four times during the day Sat. All of the tomato farmers were selling out. They could not get them picked fast enough! Way to go Ripley Tomato!
