This is funny! If you think you can do a better job go get a education an become a cop yourself. I happen to think they are doing the best they can and not everyone would or could do the job everyday. I'm thankful for them. If you or anyone else thinks they can do a better job please go to school and do it until then stop bashing or pointing fingers at the ones who have and are trying.

I wish people would refer to these men as officers and not cops. The ones that work for the city are policemen and policewomen. The ones that work for the county are deputies. Cops sounds degrading. We do have a lot of good officers in this city and county. I truly admire all of them that risk their lives everyday so that we may be safe. I feel sure they are under a lot of pressure, scared for their lives in this world we live in now. I just hope and pray that God will watch over them and keep them safe. I would not be able to nominate any one of them, as I don't know all of them, but I do salute all of them, and not just one of them.

Obviously you haven't been watching the Memphis news lately. Keep us safe?? Really? The gangs are so bad in Ripley people are scared to go out at night! I'd be thankful if the city and county police would do their friggin' job! I was in the Huddle House early one morning and several thugs came in dropping the 'F' bomb every other word and a fat ass cop just sat there eating his food pretending nothing was happening. Let's get these gangs outta here and stop accepting the fact that they are here to stay! Keep us safe...good grief!

None of them! They're all out to get a paycheck and that's it! We want cops to do their jobs and that will never happen until we get a chief and a sheriff with some balls. They both SUCK! I wish we had someone with some nuts to run these gangbangers out of our county. they are gutless! just standby and watch people get murdered, robbed and raped. Do something about it BEFORE it happens man!

I know several good officers in his county but they are not allowed to do their jobs because of politics! If you want better officers you need better people in office. We have an election in 2014 and can start with a New Sheriff!
I will do my part will you?

A new General Sessions Judge would be nice. Maybe then we could put these thugs away for a while instead of getting a slap on the hand.

another murder in Ripley last nigh? How many more people have to die before something is done!!! The TBI needs to come in and run the city and county until we can get some COMPENTENCY in these offices. How many more will die?? Paveletic has to take responsibility for our police department. I am calling for his resignation right now!! GET OUT and let someone else run this town. You have failed as a mayor, someone who we trust to keep us and our children safe. You should do the honorable thing and get out! Same for Steve Sanders. You should GET OUT! You too have failed our citizens and have not kept us safe. LEAVE.

I can't think of any good cops in Ripley, want a cop go to Mcdonalds where the fat pigs eat free. No, really, not a one of them could run down my 8 year old daughter.

True, there are some terrible officers in this town, but my husband isn't one of them. He does his job every single day and I guarantee he could run down your 8 year old daughter with no problem. He isn't a "fat pig" as you so disrespectfully referred to them. I'll agree that some of them are lazy and just don't care as long as they are paid, but don't group them all in the same category. Blondee is right; a lot of it comes down to politics. They are limited in what they can and can't do to these criminals. And if you think you could do a better job, feel free to apply.

Dear Wife - Sad thing is your husband won't be working in Ripley long if he is as dedicated as you say he is. The best officers go where the money is and it's not in Ripley Tennessee. We will miss ya'll.

What makes them thugs? The same thing that makes you a cracker? Or white trash? There is no law against "dropping the 'F' bomb" so the officer did not have to do anything. He could have asked them to be more polite around other people. But everybody has a 1st Amendment right to Freedom of Speech... weather you like what they are saying or not. I can imagine you've said things around people that they did not like, but nobody told you to shut up.

Officers are fondly known as cops, or po po. I am a nurse and as such, have/had a good working relationship with them. When we lived in the FL Keys, we really did with the local law, which was the Sheriff's dept., which was next door to the hospital.
These men and women put their lives on the line every single moment of their shifts---IF THEY WORK THEIR JOBS. If they are shiftless and lazy and part of the drug scene and corruption, then they need to be arrested and thrown under the jail.
The more I see of a good deal around Ripley, the more I am disgusted. And the powers that be from the courthouse and boards are even less than ideal.
Once again, are you folks aware that there are more county commissioners than deputies?...or fairly close in number? I mean deputies to be assigned for the ENTIRE county for 24 hours every singles day. Are you aware just how FEW police officers are available there are for the city? Take a visit up to the police station and ask that question. Be prepared for a surprise.
Do you know that our county has NO plan/action as required by law for dealing with requests for help for mental health emergencies? There are no officers available, there are no trained mental health persons available, no hospital staff liaison available, nothing.
So in light of the shortcomings present, I think our law folks do a fairly decent job with what little is there with which to work. Time for our city and county leaders to get moving and get something done. Time for our state representative who says the people matter to get busy and get the state to fund something for his county....get some jobs here to cover our needs,.

First of all you don't know me so you can't 'imagine' anything about me jack!'Thug' is not a racial term and to me it means a person who is self-centered with no respect for others and is usually engaged in unlawful activity. They had just left 'The Club' and if given a sobriety they would have been legally drunk.'Cracker' is a racial connotation, big difference. I realize there is no law against saying the 'F' word but profanity is a prelude to aggressive behavior and if the officer would have just walked over and sat near them or had a friendly conversation with them they would have shut their foul mouths! It was obvious to me that the girls working there didn't like it and neither did I. Why is our city and county the way it is? It's people like you who just accept things the way they are and are not willing to speak out about it.

Most of yall on here who talk about these police officers......if you think that they are so bad, then why don't you go become an officer yourself and change the city yourselves. Most of you are probably the same ones that smile to their faces and act all buddy buddy and then talk about them behind their back.
