Don't you read the paper? they are in the process of taking care of some of the delapidated bldgs, but it taks $$.What do you do about business closing? In this economy, no one has the $$ to start a business. Why don't you get involved instead of complaining?

You mean that no one has the money to pay the high price of utilties in ripley !! thats part of the reason alot of the small business have closed ! side walks are not being replaced or repaired !!( only on front street) we have a mayor and a council that is to make sure are community thrives. the future of Ripley looks very sad!!

Well Higginsport isn't any better for utility costs, Brown County water and their high rates, add Duke Electric, and of course, our $49.50 a month sewer charge. And things are not going to get better.

there needs to be a rehab of the leadership in our town. when you do make a complaint, it falls on deaf ears. VOTE them out and have Ashmore pack his bags!

To all the people with negative views and comments-there are millions of places to live in this world, you don't have to live in Ripley. And I'm pretty sure that wherever you live you would have to pay a utility bill and once again you would be unhappy.

I can remember there being lots of businesses in town. We had 4 or 5 grocery stores and meat markets, 4 or 5 clothing stores, a furniture store, 3 hardware stores, I could go on and on. I even worked in one of them for over 20 years. The problem is not the utilities, electric, and etc. It is the people in the community and them not supporting their local busienss. Ther is no one to blame but yourselves. Everyone would rather run to Walmart to save 5 cents than to spend their money locally.

Went down to the antique shop that has been here for how long? I have gotten a lot of nice stuff from them and poof they are closed went down to Higginsport and that one is closed too. It is a scarey thing when established businesses close. About the only business that will survive is the bars cause they can go down on prices easily enough. It's not just Ripley either went through a bunch of town's today and there are a lot of empty store fronts. The economy really needs to get going again and prices need to come down for folks to be able to make a living.

I spend my money in town as do a lot of my friends and neighbors but when we are paying triple for gas and groceries, utilities. We cannot afford to fix things or do home improvement. I used to do flowers every year well this year I only bought 2 plants and not a whole flat. And I always buy from that guy next to IGA. Money does not stretch as far as it use to. I think that is the main issue and sure we are going to try and save at times like this.

That Ripley IGA should be shut down anyways by the BOARD OF HEALTH. It is disgusting, and I DO NOT shop there unless it is on a have to basis, and not for meat or produce. Anything I buy must be in the freezer section (as cold kills bacteria) or in a can. How can the owner complain about the high cost of the electric? Now they can somewhat understand what they do to those ppl who have to shop there, and are on a fixed income. GOOD RIDDANCE IGA! Those folks who have to shop there can get Senior Services to bus them to a Kroger or another grocer who can at least supply ppl with cleanliness and sanitary conditions.

Raise the electric rates on them arseholes even more, and let us see them RUN out of town!

Are u kidding me? The only businesses in this neighborhood (almost all) are antique stores. Don't you think having more than a dozen antique stores is just overkill. Antiques stores are high-end merchandise, and this market was hit as hard as real estate with the economy. However, there are way too many antique stores with unreasonable pricing. These stores would flourish in say Lexington, KY, Louisville, KY, Kenwood, OH etc. Get the drift...high traffic business areas with money to boot.

The stores that are open such as the drug store...TOO HIGH!!! Can't even buy a decent priced greeting card from the pharmacy without getting screwed with your pants on and not even getting kissed first. Just as that damn IGA does to all of us...well, not so much me, because I quit that nasty, dirty, rat infesed shit hole of a store.

IGA has been going out of business for the past year, and im sure it will.Every business owner i have talked to here in Ripley says they are One ELECTRIC bill from going out of business. This is why you dont see many Christmas lights out here in Ripley.Part of the problem with the electric dept. is that people are Double Dipping.Check in to it and you will understand what im talking about.

GEORGE BERRY for Mayor,Joani Mullican for council and teresa stidham to run health dept. They could really straighten this town out. This is going to be the only way to straighten this mess of a town up. So lets all rally together and get them voted in. Dont you all agree?

So is IGA closing? I refuse to shop there due to the rudeness and outrageous prices. Yes I choose to drive to Maysville to shop cause I sure save more tht the gas money it takes to get there. The IGA store is nasty and especially the deli part. I have heard alot about the way the employees are treated also and as a part of the community I will take my money elsewhere.
