<quoted text>Depends on the denomination. While several of the mainline churches - Methodist, Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Episcopalian and Presbyterian will usually give you a pass for not making contributions, many of the more fundamentalist churches, which insist on the biblical law of the tithe, will force one to decide between feeding & clothing the family or tithing to the church. There is only one right answer in the mind of these churches.
Reminds me of a former co-worker of my wife who worked in Napa. Her husband became unemployed (2 kids) and they had financial difficulties as would be expected. After a couple months her "pastor" sat them down to talk to them about not tithing appropriately.

I was thoroughly disgusted with this. How about the pastor asking the congregation if anyone can help in any way.

The couple might well have said, "Sure, Pastor. We'll pay the 10 percent tithe if the church will pay our rent and groceries.

When The Reverend Jerry Hanoum was being discussed on the Oakley Topix,(after he committed suicide rather than to go to court to defend himself against a fraud lawsuit,) some of the church members acknowledged that Hanoum was sick with greed, but said they admired him anyway.

Did he hypnotize them, or what?

Never met a pastor I liked. In the end they're all nuts.

Yeah, Yeah, Lightening is gonna strike me...

In the 1980s the Lutheran minister in Vacaville left town in a hurry because his son was involved with others in killing a local teen girl. It was Reverend Zimmerman. His son's sweatshirt had blood on it and there was evidence in the kid's car trunk (weapon,) but the cops were so slow in investigating, the boy got away with his involvement and no one was ever convicted. Now Reverend Zimmerman and his wife are retired in the Sacramento area and the kid (a creepy grown man,) is a weirdo.

I think you are safe from a lightning strike, but the Zimmermans better watch out.
