Trek for Trash...

Remember the good ol days when we had a Governor that could actually ride a bike across New Mexico picking up trash?

Now we have a Governor that gets winded just picking the lint out of his double chin.

NM should have a bottle deposit. It works in reducing trash on the highways.

I agree, when I moved here from a bottle deposit state, it took some getting used to throwing out bottles... when I went back to visit my home state, I almost threw a bottle out before I stopped myself and handed it over to my friends for returning. Granted you'll pay a few pennies more, but you can fill a small car's tank with a couple large trash bags filled with bottles & cans.

And Rio Rancho residents talk about all the trash in ABQ!

Guess they have as much or more trash so careful where you go in RR, you might be considered trash and removed.

RR, there's a eyesore in every neighborhood. Sometimes it's a lawn overrun with gangly weeds and unmown grass, and illegal grass. It could be a house creatively swathed in flaking turquoise paint. Some offenders are merely run-of-the mill packrats with overflowing garages and sofas on the front porch and then there are those in need of serious psychological help. One example of team effort was a NYC father/son team who managed to amass 85,000 lbs of trash and park it in their front yard. This is part of the mentality of 'la manana" here in the Land of Enchantment" I know alot of you are from NY and have certain expectations of us regular New Mexicans, however, you cannot change the spots on a leopard....get use to it...

18 tons? if they went to my neighbors house they could have doubled that. problem is in RR the local zoning office doesn't enforce the laws on dumping and keeping one's yard clean. My neighbor has been cited 22 times in three years, twice for failure to show up in court, and yet there he sits with his yard looking like the local dump with trash blowing down the road.

Correct, it's 18 tons of garbage, or were they referring to the fact that Darren White is leaving ????

Darren White has nothing to do with Rio Rathole, that's in Sandoval county where the Rexall Ranger (Trujillo) reigns. He does surveillance from the backseat of his dark SUV there with female company @ the FailRunner PnR in Bernalillo...

This way they can trick the people of the city to do it for free and hence give them more money for the City Councilors to spend on their pet peeve projects or as what we call wasting the cities tax dollars on beautification projects. It happens every year. They divy the pot up like greedy vultures fighting over a fresh kill.

Thats awesome! Now they only have about 1000 tons more to go. What about all of the garbage that lives out there? Can they be thrown away also?

Chavez was the mayor of Albuquerque. I'm pretty sure that Rio Rancho has it's own mayor.

Unfortunately too but I have to be fair and give him around 6 month to see how well he does or if he comes down to hard on the departments he is in charge of.

I don't mean allow them to continue as they are, in fact I hope that APD starts enforcing some of the little laws and some are pretty darn dangerous, driving with a cracked windshield, one headlight out, no tail lights, utility trailers with no lights or brake lights and half with no license plates.

APD should have been enforcing those all along but I have never seen anyone pulled over due to one of those infractions.

He is going to be above Chief Schultz so he can instruct the Chief to start enforcing those laws.

Ow! Ow! It makes my head hurt. Just about everybody, and certainly, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, is using this story to say awful things about RR, ALBQ, etc. Basically, this is a good story, positive news. Stop thrashing everything and rejoice, however briefly, that RR is now a nicer place to be!

Really now? and where 12 year olds must be in the back seat? they are not considered old enough to sit up front with a seat belt on?

Lovely place to live with laws like that but face it any city you chose to live in the USA has a good, better, best and worst part of town to be in.

I would not rate RR any better or worst then ABQ in the 6 years we have been here.

I won't go so far to say they are equals but both have had some dirty politicians as Mayors so hmm, equal in some ways maybe.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Leo

The atmosphere is highly combustible today, with people getting in a stew over the smallest little thing. You will also have a tendency to get hot under the collar, especially if someone isn't doing things as quickly as you'd like. Try to stop yourself getting in a rage because once that happens it will be difficult to cool down again. Maybe you need some fresh air?
