Leopold represents UCSC. That ain't Live Oak.
Voters are smart enough to see through that.
Amazing Leopold's gang still believes they need to stick around and do even more damage to Santa Cruz County.

As We See It: Danner for supervisor - Santa Cruz Sentinel
Live Oak has long suffered an inferiority complex. Although, with Soquel, this area situated between the cities of Santa Cruz and Capitola has a voting population of around 30,000, it is within the ...

When a candidate goes against highway widening he (Leopold) is on the wrong track because this district is suburban density housing which translates to 6-7 houses per acre and spreads things out so that mass transit CAN NOT serve the needs of the people.
That Keely would run the transportation task force with a hidden agenda (against highway widening) and then offer a rehash of the former failed position (Measure J, with something for all) and have it fall on its face at its unveiling is characteristic of Pary Gatton’s ilk; delay and prevent the people from receiving what they need in essential services. Leopold won’t represent the people he says he runs to serve; the collapse of the latest attempt at a sales-tax ballot measure that would provide for a modern highway occurred because his type of politician has too much power locally and it needs to be replaced by rational leadership. When Leopold asked if his opposition to widening Highway 1 would be a "litmus test" for deciding on which candidate to endorse he went straight to the heart of the matter: the answer is YES!! |

This is terrible choice for an endorsement. Have you ever seen Danner speak when next to Leopold. She is very inarticulate, lacks substance and her ideas sound shallow. I am diappointed to read about this endorsement when the best candidate by far is John Leopold. Just review any of the debates and the choice is clear.

"We just think Betty Danner is better positioned to carry on the independence of Jan Beautz."
We just think. What amazing powers of persuasion the editorial board has! Basically you're suggesting to voters of this district that the choice is between having a supervisor that represents north county vs. south county. This district, which does encompass parts of the city of Santa Cruz has voters that would best be represented by John Leopold. True, crime has recently been a huge concern, but it is under Jan Beautz's watch that all this crime is occurring. Why should she have credibility in her endorsement? Leopold's opposition to the day labor center is fantastic and shows that he is an independent thinker who listens to (and interacts with) the community he will be representing. On this particular issue, his voice will be very important in convincing the local "establishment" that illegal immigrants are a burden on the community. John Leopold has a great blend of experience and independent thought that does seem to reflect a cross between the interests of south and north county. His willingness to interact with me and listen to my opinions makes me feel very comfortable giving him my vote. John is an excellent candidate for this position and I hope he gets your consideration. |

Bingo!
Sentinel, for a change, has it right here. jarbee (above): "Basically you're suggesting to voters of this district that the choice is between having a supervisor that represents north county vs. south county"...is close... In fact, it's really north county rad progressive SCAN/SC City-type machine "politics of obstruction" (eg Highway widening/Keeley Dumb down/slow play/) vs the possibility of workable, regional and south county solutions to our challanges. The now aging political cabal in the city of SC (you know who they are, right?...need a scorecard/lineup?), of which Leopold is a member, has been successful is stopping virtually everything around here. Congratulations to them! I afraid John will just continue on in the same tradition.... whether his position on widening is a litmus test or not. Prove me wrong, Johnnie! |

Danner lifelong resident of Live Oak? I thought she lived in La Selva Beach, but maybe she moved again. Danner is like Obama, popular but lacks experience for the position desired.
|

Both losers. Vote for anyone but Danner or Leopold.
Better yet, keep the position open and save the County money. Wasn't the County whining about not enough money to balance their budget? Yes, Danner was residing in La Selva Beach. |

Ms. Danner has not been a lifelong resident of Live Oak. She has lived both in La Selva Beach and Capitola over many years.
Isn't Tom Honig (Sentinel?)running her campaign? |

It is always helpful to see who the Senile supports, so that we know who NOT to vote for.

1. How about we elect a candidate that will simply put the Highway 1 widening decision on a public ballot. Let the residents vote on widening issue alone, and not tag on public transportation and bike path pet projects that confuse the issue and make Highway improvements too costly?
2. What value is a law enforcement endorsement of a candidate when by all measures crime in Live Oak has gotten worse in the last several years? Does that mean that the endorsed candidate supports the failed policies of the Sheriff and CHP? 3. How about a candidate that is for a day-laborer job center that only assists day-laborers that are legally allowed to work in the US? 4. What about a candidate that will put a measure on the ballot about incorporating Live Oak or annexing this part of the county to other cities so Live Oak is not so under-represented in local politics? |

So the choice presented is which "connected" candidate I should vote for? I know it was hard for the Sentinel to pick between "friends". Let's dump all these "semi-incumbents" and vote for Busenhart.
|
|
Busenhart makes a lot of sense. But...I'm not sure the personality works. Sorry, but that's an issue. She has to be able to work with people. I've yet to see her respond to even a potential supporter as anything but huffy.
Leopold is more Mark Stone, not good. Likewise, Danner plays to much to insider politics. So, who's left? Pisenti? Other than property rights, what's he about? McIsaac? Hay? Does none-of-the-above work? |

Slim Shady that is below the surface of SCUM you should be ashamed of yourself... But you don't have any pride and sit on welfare so why would you have pride. |

we often complain about our national political arena being nasty but can we keep it down here? whoever you support, some mutual respect for each other and those who are running would be nice. And frankly, the late Judge Danner was not what someone called "lame-assed" nor should his memory or the feelings of his family and friends who have no doubt had a difficult time dealing with their loss, be treated this way.
It's not easy putting yourself out there in politics today, let's be a little nicer, shall we? Thanks. |

And the errant quote - "The 1st District is well-served with two committed and qualified candidates. We just think Betty Danner is better positioned to carry on the independence of Jan Beautz."
This gem is typically of the current sloppy work that the media should be roundly hammered on. Notice the quote says, "...two..." aren't five running for first district supervisor?(There are other typos too, suggesting poor quality control.) Media at all LEVELS must work on accuracy of their product including editors. Are you attempting to minimize "fringe" candidates? Does truth trump facts? Does a few good ideas trump sound judgement? Is any change better than no change? Given the rampant errors in the media what good is your opinion? |
