1) Clean it up. Literally!.. City Council needs to pass fines for filth and homes that are below basic living standards. This would include most homes in the "drug" saturated areas in town. The fines then can be used to help physically clean up the town and maybe start some projects for the youth to keep them off the streets.
2) If you live in any of the housing, you must pass drug screens randomly to maintain residence. All adults living in the home are subject to random drug screens. Positive drug screen = eviction.
3) Vote! IF you do not like it, change it! If you do not like who is in office - change it!!!! VOTE!!!
4) Become active.. I for one have drove around town with my video camera. I have more than one illegal drug deal on tape. If all citizens did this and posted them either on the web, local news or turned the tapes over to Troop G then maybe some of the local law enforcement would have to do something.(if only to save face - No one wants their dirty laundry aired.) And this can be done anonymously!
5) Stay Active!
6) Attend all the City Council Meetings and make your voice heard!
7) Raise city taxes! Repair the city.. This way all the local drug dealers and such have to participate also. Improve the town and make it appealing to a new business and bring back jobs to the area.
8) Support your youth.. get involved in athletic programs, tutoring, and church youth groups.
9) Become a role model! Our youth of today are an example of what we have allowed!!!! They are kids!
10) Grants.. there are educated people here.. Apply for grants!!! Other small towns do this everyday!
11) School Board - again vote! This town has some very smart and talented youth.. I personally feel they are being cheated on their education. This is one of the best staffed and equipped schools in the parish. High school classed need to be separated- allowing for the more advanced students to have more one on one for college prep and the more challenging students the one on one they need without holding back the other students. Most of the honor students are taking college courses now, and doing most of the work on their own.. They need our support..
Our YOUTH is OUR FUTURE!!!
This is just a few ideas..
If everyone will quit playing he said/she said and pointing fingers, something might get done.

This is some great ideas . But in order to clean up Ringgold one must start in Arcadia's court house. This forum seems to be the only link to the outside of the parish it is been said that all local news teams are payed off not to report on that parish so keep up the good work and help us few on here get changes needed there .

As I said in #3 - VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! Have you heard about the platform of Roy Edwards? He is out handing out cards to get people registered and mailing them for them.... There are enough people that I know personally that will be able to make a difference in the vote... I am here.. In the middle of all of this mess.... Just recently been clued in to this forum.. I have spent hours catching up on old post.. I tried several years ago to try and get some things started and was "shut" down really quick by people scared to get involved.. My biggest concern is the youth and I personally spend hours and hours every week trying to make a change there.. They are our future.. I think a lot of families in this area are of an age now to become active and do something.. We have seen the changes over the years and do not want this for our kids. What can a "nobody" do to help with the Arcadia Court House besides vote for change? What else can an everyday normal working 30 something parent do to help?

There is really nothing to do because trust me we have tried it all!!!
The sheriff is a HUGE problem and to be honest it's hard to fight that crook!!!
Another thing and I hate to post this but the doctors in the area are steady handing out drugs and thats where alot of the problem starts, they get hooked on pain meds then get sent to the methadone clinics where they sale the methadone for street drugs (to our children)...then take their medical cards get free meds from the doc's and sale them (our tax dollars paying for it)to get more street drugs. I know of alot of WELL KNOWN people who are doing just that! They dont get in trouble because they are doctors, teachers, cops and so on but you take a "nobody" as you want to call em and they will spend 1yr to life in jail for something most everyone in Ringgold is doing because the sheriff gets paid so much a month to hold these "nobody's" in jail!

I too know of some of this happening.. It seems most of the problems have the same root.. I can see this is a huge problem to add to the others I posted about.. Maybe we can get some publicity stirred up before this next election kicks in... There are enough citizens out there that can do this...VOTE for change... and pray for the best!

And by "nobody", I was referring to myself.. A concerned working parent and Christian.. All I want is a better life for my children.. I want better all the way around.. One day I will be a grandparent and I want them to come and see me and stay for summers.. I do not want them coming to see this!

We have tried to get publicity and the only time it seems the news station will take time to come out for anything is when JB is tring to make himself look good...Ever noticed that the ONLY time the news says anything about Ringgold is when JB is doing ALL the talking?

Yes.. I have noticed that.. But there has to be a way around that... If all the citizens in town started video taping all the "illegal" stuff on the corner and posting it on the web or emailing the videos to the media..someone would have to save face!!! or do something... For example.. If 20 videos hit the web at once from different source with illegal activities and nothing is being done... Would "he" (JB) have to be answering to someone? Sounds simple... but videos seem to get a lot of publicity lately!

Second thought... With the economic boom being seen in the area/parish.. This is the perfect time for some of the residents making a big paycheck to put back into the area... Financially backing up ROY or whoever runs for Sheriff against JB.. Just saying.. People talk about voting and making changes.. How many are willing to dig into those pockets and make it happen?? Money Talks!!

Well Everyone needs to get out that little video camera.. film the felons.. send copies to Bienville Parish Sheriff Dept, Ringgold PD, and the State Attorney's office and see who does what first.. This will either make them do their job or give the State the proof they need to build a case against those who do not do their job!!! Once all of this goes to the Court House and the State knows what is going on, then maybe the Judges and DA will have to honestly do their job or be in hot water.. This will ultimately hit their pocketbook, but and a big but here..if they loose the ability to practice law then where would they be. The State would be forcing them to do the right thing.

Put real lawmen on the streets in Ringgold. One's that don't live in Ringgold so they can't be bought, threatened or intimidated by the drug dealers. Allow men to join the police department that are willing to volunteer their time to help clean up the bad element in town. And pray the good people in town will stand behind the law and not persecute them when people start hollering racial profiling.

do you honestly think the sheriff will go for that , and for sure looking at the voting pole the bad out weights the good not by much but it did , so doze the mess down, cut out the free checks and start over , the only way to remove rift raft is starve it out , one other thing what you going to do when the dopers get to court in that crooked ass system in Arcadia so once again the bad out weights the good so to fix ringgold you going to have to start in the parish election by cleaning out Arcadia , and believe or not thats the only way . a new jail is not the answer ringgold must be able to stand on its own with out Arcadia or its doomed .

I agree, I remember the days when good people stood and walked TALL on the streets of Ringgold, but now it seems like we have a bunch of spineless cowards that won't get out and vote and too scared to voice their opinion. If Ringgold is to survive, people that live there and love the town will have to stand up. Start a citizen crime watch. Patrol the streets and report crime to higher authority.
