(WHAS11)- A home invasion turns deadly in Hardin County when an intruder was shot in the head by the homeowner.

It happened around 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Rineyville.

Police say 18-year-old Kevin Scott Puckett, a nearby resident, broke the window of the home and then started making other threats.

Loretta Lynn Hawkins, 42, was in the home with her 21-year-old son and three infants at the time.

State police say that Puckett may have known the 21-year-old resident, but it is unclear what led him to try to force his way into the home.

Puckett has a record of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and public intoxication. Police believe he may have had a previous conflict with Hawkins' 21-year-old son.

Puckett broke through the kitchen window after he shouted threats. Hawkins shot him once with a .22-caliber handgun in the head. He later died.

Hawkins is not likely to be charged. However, the case will be reviewed by the Commonwealth's attorney.

hardin county may not have a csi team like on tv but it doesn't take a genius to figure out when someone has been shot in one place then placed somewhere else in a staged set up. Even hardin county could probably prove that one. I'd say if there's no evidence to the contrary then the facts in the news story probably is what really happened. Maybe dude was high or something? Either way you break into a window in someone elses houseand try to crawl in then you deserve whatever you get threats or not. Way to go loretta

Just let then get inside first. Castle law.It helps if they were "armed" with some "weapon" as well. Remember, know your law because the law is always looking to make a case, any case, to support the corrupt for profit justice and for profit prison system. Give them nothing but clear cut evidence.

Artice clip" Hawkins not likely to be charged. However, the case will be reviewed by the Commonwealth's attorney.>>>>>

The law resents citizens defending themselves. Thy would prefer you to be a victim so law enforcement can make such calls as use of deadly force. Notice the article say the case will be reviewed. That means they system is looking for someone alive to prosecute to keep the system funded and working. Hope this woman has all her Ts crossed and ample witnesses. Know the law on home defense.

I noticed that and was wondering if someone was going to bring this up,seems as if she could loose everything she has trying to defend herself.hope it wont be the case face it nobody has any rights and i will say if somebody comes in my house i will shoot first and answer questions later.

THIS IS COMPLETELY HYPOTHETICAL. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ANY OF THE PEOPLE INVOLVED.

If this is a simple case of a crackhead trying to break into someone's house and steal their things to get high I have absolutely zero sympathy for the dead kid. You break into an innocent person's house and you deserve a bullet in your head.

BUT, what if this wasn't some crackhead, it was an angry brother of a 13 year old girl who the 21 year old had been attempting to molest? What if the 21 year year old had robbed his house before and he was just angry at him? Does Loretta deserve such praise for putting a bullet in his head if her son had brought the attention on them?

The dead kid sounds like an asshole from the reports, so I hope it is a case of him deserving what he got.

I don't think it matters too much what the rest of the story is. If you have a terrible grievance with a man (like the 21 year old son in this story) the way to handle it is NOT to break into his mommas house, filled with young children, through a window screaming threats. If you don't think your risking being shot for pulling something like that then you need to be taken out of the gene pool anyway.

This reads like Hawkins has done civil society a favor. Eliminating ( while defending home domain) a violent problem person that has been a detention center resident on the taxpayer's tab before and can be objectively said, would be again.

If someone in breaking your home windows, acting threatening, and trying to gain or has gained entry, one would have a right to consider them a deadly threat and take protective action.

As mentioned, one should know the law regarding this, the Castle law, to protect themsleves after the fact from the law itself, for the stated reasons, they are always out to make a $ score for the system.
