They seemed to have convinced council members to rezone the area from a partially residential area to a commercial. There will be consequences for the local community who must be pissed at having a commercial building go up around some higher end housing areas? The builder Harold Pickeral is apparently an asshole who doesn't give a toss about the residents who bought from him to live in the area. Then he rezones it to make more money by selling land to verizon wireless? This guy is a criminal

"...save 1500 jobs"....????..how so? they are relocating the facility currently located in the Forest Acres area/Richland Fashion Mall. I'd call that a "move." WLTX needs to stop hiring middle school journalist hopefuls and get real news professionals who are capable of distinguishing facts from 'made up stuff'...pffffftt.
The location is a dumb logistics move -- the area isn't appropriate for a call center and the residents don't want it there. The roads are not set up to handle the influx of traffic the various shifts that will come and go to the 24/7 call center.
This was a myopic decision from VZW - there were no other locations considered...and there are
*p l e n t y* of avaiable, vacant buildings in and nearer to the center of town, closer to the airport. This location has no support for a large business -- no restaurants, no hotels, nearly an hour (or more in peak traffic)to/from airport -- no medical facilities, and will be down the end of a dead end street from the elementary school, one major highway in/out. I'm certain there are no civil engineers or planners in local government in SC -- if there were, this wouldn't be happening. Only good thing, the director lives in that community, so her commute will be 5 minutes to work now.
