I think it would be a great idea but many police departments do not like the idea because it is evidence of either what they are or are not doing in their individual jurisdiction. They don't want you to know how bad crime really is or don't want you to know how much crime prevention that they aren't accomplishing with their resources. It is not in their best interest. I say if you don't have anything to hide, why not implement a blotter for all to see?

I agree. People need to know what is really going on around them. However, the police will have to be willing to cooperate and provide the Chronickle this information.

You can see how many traffic stops Richwood and Summersville PD conducted from April 2007 to September 2008 by clicking on this link and scrolling to page 142 and 163:

http://www.djcs.wv.gov/SAC/Documents/WVSAC_Tr...

In one year and five months Richwood PD stopped an average of one person every two weeks. Way to go Mayor Baber, Mayor McClung, Dan Silman, Dave Morris, and the too many to list Richwood PD Oficers! Tax dollars hard at work. There's no wonder the druggies were having a hay day.

Nicholas County Sheriff's Department stopped an average of 5.42 people per day. Page 109. An improvement over Richwood but knowing the number of deputies that were employed at that time and the 26,000+ residents that Nicholas County maintains + US19 traffic do not add up either. Way to go Sheriff Wetzel Bennett and numerous Nicholas County deputies! Hopefully Mayor Johnson, Larry Tinney, Sheriff Hopkins, and Chief Nowak will make better use of tax dollars. We will see how transparent they really are and how readily available they make information to the Nicholas Chronicle so the taxpayer can track their progress or lack thereof.
