And most Black people?
They don't want to be called "African Americans"!!!
Why???
First... the most (who have not been liberal brainwashed) Just want to be called 'Americans'!!!

Second... A whole lot of them never came from, or have even ever been to Africa!

So... Once again!
How about you self loathing white liberals just mind your own business? And leave us all out out your self hatred???

How do you know what most Black people in the US want to be called? Have you seen polls on it? If so, please share them. If not, please tell me how else you would know such a thing.

You seem to be trying to say something positive about Black Americans here. They DO think of themselves as Americans, just as we all do, I agree. But would you ever say to one of these Black Americans, whom it seems you are trying to show some respect to: "You can take the black man out of the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of the black man?" If you would, why would you? If you wouldn't, why wouldn't you? Do you see how a Black American might be offended by such a remark? Would you be OK with offending them like that?

And just who appointed you judge and jury of what "offends others???
What I've noticed about the self hating white liberal like you?
Is the people that you claim to defend? They don't agree with your infantile tirades, and they don't care!!!
Example:
The Indians? They don't give a sh!t if a team names their selves the "Braves", "Red Skins" "Warriors" and on and on!
In other words, THEY DON'T CARE!!!!!!!!!!
How about you self loathing white liberals just mind your own business? And leave us all out out your self hatred???
I actually think that such names like "the Braves" and "the Warriors" (and even "the Chiefs") are not or should not necessarily be seen as offensive and that we can find many parallels to them among other groups, such as "the Trojans" or "the Spartans," etc., although I think some Native Americans might disagree with me.

But do you really think that there is nothing wrong with the name the "Redskins" and that American Indians think that is fine by and large? Again, please produce some evidence for this claim, if you can. Thank you.

Oh MY!!! You self loathing liberals???

American Indian Chief:‘Waste of Time’ to Argue Over Redskins Name.
Leaders of Native American tribes in Virginia say they don’t have an issue with the name of Washington’s professional football team and have bigger fish to fry.

Their admissions parallel a recent Associated Press/GfK poll that shows nearly 80 percent of all Americans are not offended by the name.

An Associated Press poll conducted form April 11 through 15 of 1,004 adults found that 79 percent didn’t believe the Redskins should change their name. Another 11 percent disagreed, eight percent weren’t sure, and two percent didn’t answer.

You backed up your claim by citing some news stories and polls (which are not fully reported in the first link, so I can't really determine where the numbers come from) on the "Redskins." I thank you for that.

Now how about responding to any of my other questions. How about this one: would you ever say to a Black American: "You can take the Black man out of the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of the Black man?" Would you ever use this expression? Why or why not?

yes if it were true.
A fair minded black man would agree that some people cannot overcome lifelong bad habits learned from growing up in a ghetto......black, white, yellow, or red..........the good news is that some do overcome the adversity. IMHO, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are not among them.

I have a good native American friend who would also agree that you can take the red man off the res., but you can't always take the res. out of the red man. He is a successful lawyer who often defends his own people in criminal cases.
He laughed out loud when the Indians/warriors/braves names were cited as being racist.
But then again he is a very reasonable man who doesn't look for trouble, and he isn't the "childishly sensitive type".

NOTE: You are trying to modify your earlier statement by now explaining that "some people" fall into the category you discussed earlier. I think this is a GREAT modification on your part and shows real progress in your articulation of your ideas. Continue trying to express yourself that carefully in the future when it comes to talking about people instead of putting every person of a particular group into the same box.

NOTE: You are now talking about disadvantageous circumstances that people have to overcome in their lives. This is also a step in the right direction and an acknowledgement that the circumstances in which a person is born and raised and the context in which they live have a very, very important impact on a person's prospects for success in life. That is how liberals think. Welcome to the club on that one!

But I also note that you have not defended your earlier statement, only tried to modify it. How about this as a direct comparison to what you wrote earlier. Would you ever say this?: "You can take the white man out of the slave master's house but you can't take the slave master mentality out of the white man." Is that a fair expression for every white person? What do you think of a statement like that? What if someone like Al Sharpton or someone you despise equally had said that? What would you think of it? Be honest!

What do you think of this kind of language? You put it up here "4 me" but you don't have a take on it yourself? I know it expresses a sentiment you might share, but do you think that this kind of language advances a discussion of the issues?

Also, I would be very curious in finding out what you think of the ideas expressed in the link. What do you think of the argument made in the link, or did you just try to find something like this to make your own original thoughtless and stupid language more excusable?

Hiding behind "Local" and can't express yourself? Come on, you've got more courage than that. Answer the question or have that courage doubted. Would you ever say: "You can take the black man out of the ghetto but can't take the ghetto out of the black man?" Waiting...

Just look at the fool that testified for the late ash tray..........

I also say you can take the white trailer trash out of the trailer park but you can't take the trailer park out of the trailer trash..........

Al Sharton is a tool.....and mostly a opportunistic race baiting pos. Perhaps he is displaying habits learned elsewhere(maybe in the ghetto)....I don't know and quite frankly, I don't care.
The fact that you are defending him gives us all great insight into the type of person that you are.....and the fact that he has reached national prominence because of people like you is awful.
I thought that you might reconsider your childishly sensitive over reaction to a statement that is a REALITY in many case. But then again, I was obviously mistaken.
If you disagree, that is fine......get off the thread....or give me some statistics and links to back up whatever?? point you are trying to make.

Oh and btw, in regard to our long past discussion about Syria......
I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!

I'll not modfy anything in regard to the original statement about Jesse Jackson(s) and Al Sharpton. You can take them out of the Ghetto, but you can't take the Ghetto out of them.
