More Americans now die of suicide than from car accidents, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a disturbing statistic that some experts say points to the true depths of the US economic crisis.
the rate of increase has more than quadrupled since President Obama was elected to the Presidency in 2008, Reuters reports.

Suicide Rate Among Young Veterans Has Tripled, Report Finds
http://thinkprogress.org/health/2014/01/11/31...

Failed hope n' change....just another lie
According to the poll, 63% of the public thinks the country is headed in the wrong direction; 71% aren’t satisfied with the economy; the president’s approval is a weak 43%; When respondents were asked which one or two words best describe the state of the nation, the top answers were all negative:“divided”(37%),“troub led”(23%), and “deteriorating”(21%). Only 3% described the state of the union as “strong.” And in an open-ended question asking the same thing, the top responses were “downhill” and “wrong track.” So when the president addresses the country tonight, he’ll be speaking to a pessimistic nation. But this isn’t a new phenomenon: The last time our NBC/WSJ poll showed that a mere 40%(!!!) thought the country was headed in the right direction was back in 2004 -- 10 years ago. A DECADE!!!....during the W. administration

Absolutely correct! But as you know, our sad economy is also a testament to the repubs SINCE Bush's Great Recession. They've intentionally hurt our country by blocking any bill suggested by Obama or the dems that would actually improve our economy.

They drove us into the ditch and then kept us there. Thanks Tbaggers.

The infrastructure jobs bill could have added a million jobs to our economy, and it would have left us with much needed renovations of our bridges, roads, electrical grid, ports, schools. Our infrastructure is crumbling and is now much worse than most civilized countries.

One million jobs. This would take people off of food stamps and unemployment insurance, saving us millions of dollars. More money would be spent, and small businesses would get more customers. They would hire more employees, who then have more money to spend. And we would be getting more tax revenue from those millions more people now getting incomes.

It's an upward spiral.

And then our national debt would get paid down as well. You can't pare down the debt by strangling the economy.

World War II was a huge 'stimulus program'. We had to spend billions in order to defeat our enemies, and most everyone got back to work.
And as WWII ended we found ourselves free of the Great Depression.

We could do the same thing with big stimulus programs now-- but the spending would not be for bombs and artillery, but for renovating our bridges, roads, schools, and so on.

Yep, world war II was expensive in both blood and treasure......thank goodness we enjoyed the benefits of winning..........because we were hugely in debt..

And now, thanks to a horrible potus we are hugely in debt....and....we have nothing to show for it. The jihadists are taking back Iraq, and..........they will take back afghanistan as soon as we finish retreating under nobama leadership.

Our national debt is already larger than our yearly GDP..........the money has been spent lil teepee....you and your leader have already screwed the pooch.

btw.....GITMO is a hugely expensive operation. Candidate obama promised to close it down.
How's that going?

Thanks for confirming that Iraq and Afghanistan where a huge and needles waste of blood and money, only conservative fools like bush the W could have started.

Further proof bush the W was a fool lies in the fact that…

after he embroiled the Nation in a phony war he proceeded to get us further into debt by lowering taxes on his wealthy friends and running the US into the worst recession since the great depression….

Huge biparistan support to invade Afghanistan/Iraq.

Only one member of either house of Congress voted against invading Afghanistan.

As is usually the case, cowardly liberal dopes are trying to rewrite history.
They should grow a pair and accept responsibility for how bad the situation has become.

In the meantime, suicide rates for veterans have tripled, and suicide rates for average good Americans have quadrupled after five years of this...the obama era.
and..........obama has run up our national debt to nearly $18 trillion in the process..........and probably the most difficult outcome of the obama era......America is more divided than at any time since the civil war.
All of this from a candidate(obama) who swore to unite the Country.

32 Statistics That Obama Neglected To Mention During The State Of The Union Address
#1 According to a recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, only 28 percent of all Americans believe that the country is moving in the right direction.

#2 In 2008, 53 percent of all Americans considered themselves to be "middle class". In 2014, only 44 percent of all Americans consider themselves to be "middle class".

#3 In 2008, 25 percent of all Americans in the 18 to 29-year-old age bracket considered themselves to be "lower class". In 2014, an astounding 49 percent of them do.

#4 Right now there is approximately a billion square feet of vacant retail space in the United States.

#5 There are 46.5 million Americans that are living in poverty, and the poverty rate in America has been at 15 percent or above for 3 consecutive years. That is the first time that has happened since 1965.

#6 Barack Obama says that the unemployment rate has declined to 6.7 percent, but if the labor force participation rate was at the long-term average it would actually be approximately 11.5 percent, and it has stayed at about that level since the end of the last recession.

#7 While Barack Obama has been in the White House, the number of Americans on food stamps has gone from 32 million to 47 million.

#8 While Barack Obama has been in the White House, the percentage of working age Americans that are actually working has declined from 60.6 percent to 58.6 percent.

9 While Barack Obama has been in the White House, the average duration of unemployment in the United States has risen from 19.8 weeks to 37.1 weeks.

#10 While Barack Obama has been in the White House, social benefits as a percentage of real disposable income has risen from about 17 percent to nearly 21 percent.

#11 While Barack Obama has been in the White House, the rate of homeownership in the United States has fallen to levels that we have not seen in nearly two decades.

#12 While Barack Obama has been in the White House, median household income in the United States has fallen for five years in a row.

#13 While Barack Obama has been in the White House, the average cost of a gallon of gasoline has gone from $1.85 to $3.27.

#14 At the end of Barack Obama's first year in office, our yearly trade deficit with China was 226 billion dollars. Now it is over 300 billion dollars.

#15 Workers are taking home the smallest share of the income pie that has ever been recorded.

#16 Sadly, 1,687,000 fewer Americans have jobs today compared to exactly six years ago even though the population has grown significantly since then.

#17 One recent study found that about 60 percent of the jobs that have been "created" since the end of the last recession pay $13.83 or less an hour.

#18 Only 47 percent of all adults in America have a full-time job at this point.

#19 It is hard to believe, but an astounding 53 percent of all American workers make less than $30,000 a year.

#20 The Obama years have been absolutely brutal for small businesses. According to economist Tim Kane, the following is how the number of startup jobs per 1000 Americans breaks down by presidential administration...

Bush Sr.: 11.3

Clinton: 11.2

Bush Jr.: 10.8

Obama: 7.8

#21 You can still buy a house in the city of Detroit for just one dollar.

#22 The U.S. cattle herd is at a 61 year low.

#23 It is being projected that health insurance premiums for healthy 30-year-old men will rise by an average of 260 percent under Obamacare.

#24 According to the most recent numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau, an all-time record 49.2 percent of all Americans are receiving benefits from at least one government program each month.

#25 When Barack Obama was first elected, the U.S. debt to GDP ratio was under 70 percent. Today, it is up to 101 percent.

#26 The U.S. national debt is on pace to more than double during the eight years of the Obama administration. In other words, under Barack Obama the U.S. government will accumulate more debt than it did under all of the other presidents in U.S. history

#27 Right now, there are 1.2 million students that attend public schools in the United States that are homeless. That number has risen by 72 percent since the start of the last recession.

#28 Only 35 percent of all Americans say that they are better off financially than they were a year ago.

#29 Only 19 percent of all Americans believe that the job market is better than it was a year ago.

#30 According to a recent CNN poll, 70 percent of all Americans believe that "the economy is generally in poor shape".

#31 According to a recent Pew Research survey, only 19 percent of all Americans trust the government. Back in 1958, 73 percent of all Americans trusted the government.

#32 According to another poll that was recently released, 70 percent of all Americans do not have confidence that the government will "make progress on the important problems and issues facing the country in 2014."

Another example of loco's plagiarism.

The fact is that our economy is better than many other countries, and MUCH better than when he took office. But it would be much better if President Obama could have gotten some repub/ Tbagger cooperation.

But the day after Obama was elected, Mitch McConnell and his Republican cohorts met and planned their next move. They decided to simply block anything Obama and the dems wanted to do to improve things.

They would block every bill to improve our economy, including things that repubs USED to support. They knew that this would hurt our economy, and then they would blame the stagnation on the president.

They would rather hurt our country then improve it-- because they could blame it all on Obama. Just so they could win the next election.

Any patriotic American should find this strategy to be criminal. If the dems did this I'd be against the dems. Because I'm an American FIRST.

Yes, we WERE hugely in debt after WWII. But did republican Eisenhower cowardly and wrongly cut programs and spending, and try to cure our debt by strangling our economy?

NO, Congress and the president did the OPPOSITE. Instead, they used stimulus spending and a very progressive tax structure to fuel our economy and start cutting down our debt.

They built our massive freeway system, which cost billions. But it also put millions of people into jobs and gave us the infrastructure that accelerated the growth of our businesses, and gave us more jobs for decades to come.

They provided benefits to our veterans, including the GI bill, which allowed millions to get college degrees and buy homes.

In other words, the government, even after the huge debt from WWII, CONTINUED to spend money in order to accelerate our economy and improve our infrastructure.

We even spent money to help war-torn Europe, with the Marshall Plan.

And our highest tax brackets were at 70%-- and the Fat Cats and big corporations still made lots of money.

The decades that followed were our best ever. EVERYONE did well. And our national debt was SHRINKING.

But then St. Reagan came along and lowered taxes on the fat cats. Reagan talked about shrinking the government, but our deficits started to double and triple. Bush Jr. doubled our deficit, and through his wars, tax cuts, and financial meltdown, left Obama facing 750,000 people losing their jobs every month.

But you guys ignore the history lesson given to us by WWII and during the decades up to Reagan.

Those 35 years after WWII were our most prosperous EVER, and EVERYONE prospered.

You are so right!

Who would ever dream of accusing the saintly Reagan and kindhearted "compassionate conservative" bush the W of any wrongdoing or causing the Nation any harm…???

I mean, what's the big deal about the multiple scandals of the Reagan administration that resulted in the investigation, indictment and conviction of over 138 administration officials, the largest for any US President?

Or who cares about the long term effects of the Iran Contra affair, the Savings and Loan Crisis, EPA scandals, Debategate, Hud grants rigging, Lobbying Scandal, etc, etc, etc..?

And who cares that little bush the W was riding a tricycle in his ranch for the entire month just prior to 911?

Some say that the Iraq war was started on a lie and that the Afghanistan and Iraq wars were put on the nations charge card while the already low taxes on the wealthy were cut once again, and many people were upset, so F'm if they can't take a joke!

More importantly, who could ever forget the halcyon days of the bush the W's administration when the economy was losing over a million jobs per month…?
