By their actions the government thinks that we are all stupid. They treat the citizens of this country like children. The government thinks that we are not smart enough to decide what kind of health insurance that we want so they come up with options that they think are the best for us. Yep, a health insurance plan for 70 year olds with maternity coverage. Brilliant.

The government thinks that they should be able to tell us what to do with our bodies. The illegality of certain drugs that are used purely for recreation are one of the best examples.

And on and on we go.

"The Federal Register, the federal governmentís fun-filled journal of new rules, regulations, and the like, was about 2,600 pages in 1936 (a year after it was created). Today itís over 80,000 pages.

And thatís just at the federal level. Each state government is a pretty giant-sized Twinkie, too. In Massachusetts, all kids in daycare are required by law to brush their teeth after lunch. In Texas ó Texas!ó if you donít have an interior-design license, you canít call yourself an interior designer, lest some unsuspecting consumer trust your opinion on throw-pillow placement without the backing of the state. Almost everywhere, Americans need a license to open a business ó sometimes even a lemonade stand ó but in Milwaukee, you even need a license to go out of business.

The justifications for all of these laws and all of these workers ó the good, the bad, and the ugly ó have one thing in common: the assumption that the rest of us couldnít get by without them, whether we like it or not.

This week the feds took the first steps to ban trans fats. Why? Because trans fats are bad for you and you canít be trusted to avoid them on your own. I bring this up not because it is such an outrageous illustration of my point, but to demonstrate how typical it is. This is what the government does, day in, day out.

Thatís what makes the reaction to Obamacare so interesting. Several times now, the president has endeavored to explain that itís not that big a deal millions of Americans are losing their health-insurance plans against their will. The people who had plans they liked didnít understand that the plans they liked were no good ó they were the actuarial equivalent of trans fats, donít you know? The fact that the people who held them liked them, thought they were good, and wanted to keep them doesnít count for much, because the government knows best. "

1) That's probably because, as conservative posters prove dozens of times per day here , the average person is not bright enough to figure out all the loopholes that teams of highly trained corporate attorney write into the policies in order to deceive the consumers..

2) A 70 year old would more than likely be on medicare and not affected by OBAMACARE and "maternity coverage" is just ONE of OBAMACARE requirements and besides...

why would conservatives who so detest abortions would not want insurers to provide "maternity coverage...?"

It is very telling that conservatives are shedding tears for the few relatively well to do whose medical insurance got disrupted but they don't give a damn about tens of millions of impoverished who could never afford meaningful medical coverage in the first place...

A pregnant woman should be able to do what she wants with her body as long as she doesn't endanger the child that is within her. There are child endangerment laws you know.

Of course you are corect.....however......by all accounts, many Americans are in fact very gullible....or........even stupid.
Obama changed his wording about obamacare from "you can keep your healthcare/doctors if you like them".......to "you cannot keep your healtcare and your doctors....if"..........
Many Americans are too stupid to realize that they have been had.
Obama knew that there would be cancellations and chaos.....but he lied about it.

He still has his cadillac healthcare plan provided by "we the peeps". How nice for him and his family!

Truth be known many Americans finally realized they have been had and lied to by the T baggers party...

And only ignorant conservatives are spreading the ridiculous notion that a revolutionary overhaul in America's medical care should/could have gone with nary a glitch...

Another way in which the government thinks that you are stupid is trying to sell the public on ethanol additives in our gasoline as a way to decrease gas consumption. Ethanol increases gas consumption, ruins engines, increases food prices, etc.

Good one!

While it pains me to do so, I must admit Sam is right to an extent. The government under both Democrats and repubicans does think most run -of -the -mill repubicans and all tea -baggers are stupid.

That's why they're called "lemmings". The dumber they are, the easier they are to lead.

Actually we should have used sugar cane instead of corn for the ethanol, just the big island of Hawaii could probably generate enough ethanol to meet half the countries energy needs, and you are right...

T baggers and ultra conservative republicans are seriously lacking in the upstairs department...

A San Diego woman says she has been kicked off her insurance plan due to Obamacare while battling Stage 4 gallbladder cancer.

ďI had great cancer doctors and health insurance,Ē Edie Littlefield Sundby wrote in a Sunday Wall Street Journal op-ed.ďMy plan was canceled. Now I worry how long Iíll live.Ē

ďFor almost seven years I have fought and survived Stage 4 gallbladder cancer, with a five-year survival rate of less than 2 percent after diagnosis,Ē she said.

The wife and I jut spent eight days on O'AHU and the Big Island and all the pineapple and sugar cane are gone except for a few private plots of pineapple. You are right about large corporations forcing the locals into low paying servant/service jobs.

We had planned on going to Maui but everyone said unless we were rich and liked to golf it isn't worth the money. We were told that there is now more acreage in golf links/turf and high -end resorts than in agriculture.

We're going back next summer and it'll be to the Big Island or KAUA'I. I'm not finished exploring HAWAI'I so it's my first choice.
