That works out to 111111.11 +/- per person. Butt the number doesn't mean much since you didn't say whether the Captian is included in that figure or if that $7,000,000,00 includes benefit contributions, overtime blah blah blah.

To paint an honest, objective picture a person needs to know those things.

Me, I don't have a problem paying firemen good wages.

Butt, that being said, cops are way over paid for what they do. There are two dead people in Sacramento because the cops didn't break off hot persuit. Two innocent people would be alive if those cops would have put public safety first instead of reacting to their need to satisfy their egos that were compromised by "contempt of cop".

Thanks. When I've got the time I'll see if I can break down those numbers. My hunch is that those "wages" include taxes and S.S. and Medicare.

I don't understand your reference to taxes, Social security and medicare. Are you implying the ER's reference to the $7 million/yr wage for 116 employees included those deductions? It seems obvious to me both the ER's reference to the wages for high speed rail employees and my rebuttal about the ER's silence on 62 Chico firefighters getting $7 million/yr were about wages before deductions. Are you saying the hypocrisy of the ER is somehow mitigated if the figures don't include or exclude deductions? What is your point?
I would like to ask the thread to give suggestions for sound bits that would make clear distinctions between the unions who are coddled by the right and the other public employee unions the right seek to dismantle. IE; conservative Unions?

Before retirement when the state figured my wages it was around $84.00 an hour. I damn sure didn't get that much. Some went towards my supervisors compensation package (overhead). Some went for facilities management (renting the buildings I worked in). Some went to taxes like income, S.S. and Medicare. Some went for my benefits like healthcare, retirement etc.

That worked out to about $174,000.00 but I made, took home about $21.00 an hour.

See where I'm going with this?

Use terms like gross earnings (before deductions) and net earnings (after deductions).

and if someone's gross pay of $9.00 an hour could save for retirement like you with the same amount deducted their net pay would be minus dollars.

That statement gets a great big LAUGHING OUT LOUD.

Your WAGES were $84 per hour and you took home $21.....?

Please....enlighten us and break that down... if you can u dope..........lmao.
This ought to be good.

(Here's a hint) employer payroll taxes are not WAGES...and....if your health insurance were worth $20k per year(that's high), you would add $10 per hour onto your per hour wage rate.

community organizers and lifelong employees have no clue what it costs to hire someone....especially lifelong gubmint employees.....they just demand MORE and MORE and MORE.

They keep raising the cost of employing people and then wonder why unemployment is so high?

One letter writer to the ER estimated the total average cost per firefighter to be $175,000/yr including benefits. I don't know where he got his information and I don't have access to the cost of their benefit package.
Assuming a 40 hour week and a 50 week year ( 2 weeks vacation) you would have made $44,000/yr and assuming a 60% retirement pension you would gross $26,400/yr in pension. I don't consider $26,400/yr excessive. Thus my references to the coddled unions versus other public employee unions

$7,000,000.00 divided by the number of firemen equals about $175,000.00, give or take a few hundred.

In my earlier post I misstated that my wages were about $84.00 an hour. That's what the department I worked for charged the general fund per hour that I worked.

Don't ask me how I got these numbers but I got them. Challenge them with a freedom of information act request if you want.

Fire union president Kenneth J Campbell 2012
Fire apparatus engineer
Standard pay $87,442.88
Standard hours 2912
Special pay $11,866.56 (pension employee payments made by the city but not the city's responsibility)
Other pay $1098.86
Overtime pay $58,059.47
Overtime hours 1269
Fringe total $71,359.96
Total compensation $229,827.73
Gross pay $158,467.77
Total pay $229,827.73

Everyone can ask and have this info. You just have to ask. Don't believe me? Ask for it.

A step in the RIGHT direction.......twerp

The "department" you worked for would charge ALL costs associated with your employment to the general fund for budgeting purposes......
i.e. employer payroll contributions etc...
If you took home $21 per hr, your wage was probably between $25-30 per hr. depending upon how many allowances you claimed on your w-4 form.

wow. assuming 2 weeks vacation....2912 hrs per year equates to nearly 60 hours per week.

and in regard to the pension payment? If the City paid the amount IT WAS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY.
This is where the rubber meets the road. Most of the healthcare/pension info was hidden and we only saw actual wages in the paper. As you can see, "standard pay" has become insignificant along side what is actually going on.

It becomes easy for elected officials to give away other peoples money(tax revenue). Especially when most of the "giving away" happens behind closed doors and out of the newspaper.

Guess again. City pension payment for Kenneth J Campbell
$52,551.90

That doesn't include special pay and the payment made by the employee.
