Police and firefighters unions(associations) have a stranglehold on Chico. By the regulations imposed by the unions(associations) the unions have basically taken control of work scheduling, the result is the City can"t control overtime. The City is supposed to be the employer, but the unions are in control. In every union environment there exist an unwritten code of conduct expected of every union employee. That unwritten code is sometimes called "conditions". If a union member doesn't comply with those "conditions" he/she will come under intense peer pressure in the form of bulling, harassment, verbal and physical intimidation, having their personal property vandalized and can be brought in front of the union on charges of "breaking down conditions". If found guilty of breaking down conditions they can be thrown out of the union and lose their job. In every firehouse one of those conditions is that lower seniority firefighters must not put their name down on the overtime list if a senior union member want overtime. That combined with the minimum block of hours regulations imposed by the union allow the senior man to spike his pension

You may be able to find spell checker but you have no substance in content ( oh are you going to correct my spelling again?) Just sit there in your Bowie trailer house and imagine you have anything substantial to add to Chico content. you mindless troll. oh by the way "maybee' is an accepted alternate spelling choice. Is that too much for your one brain addled cell to process. oh go ahead and correct spelling and call names it seems to be the only excitement you are capable of achieving in your otherwise pointless life.
Hey there Ken now you are getting up to speed. Once you figure out that this stupid forum is about name calling and other trite you will be much happier. So grow up and get with it because all your serious pontification is boring as hell.

Just like republican talking heads scream whenever workers in any line of work who want a raise, "don't like your pay, go somewhere else to work". Well screw the cops, let them find other work if they don't like their pay.

There's a very good letter to the editor in the ER today for those who are serious about ridding ourselves of the IAFF. Also the link at chicoer.com/saleries is easy to navigate and informative if you are interested in the budget excesses of the fire and police dept. under agency click " City of Chico" and the compare police and firefighters pay with what the average Chico citizen makes.

Right is wrong is a troll from Lincoln. No knowledge of chico politics yet always tries to interject the plight of the public employee. He himself was a state employee who got out before the state pensions spiked and is now very bitter.

There are people on this CHICO forum who like to discuss local city politics. There are also people on this forum who are disgusted with the greedy posture of iaff and their strong arming of the city general fund.

Michael jones and others are pushing for a change to cal fire. 80 percent of our general for salaries is way too much. Surprisingly Randall stone had been the most vocal council member opposing the huge fire salaries.

Probably need to dump swab, Morgan, grunter and gandolf before we can make progress on this area.

Grandpa is a diehard socialist who hates any thing conservative, probably on a govt pension. No idea why he uses a local forum to try argue national politics. He never had anything to interject locally.

Keep on with the efforts to get fire police and city salaries back in line. There are people listening and I am feeling a groundswell of support for the city taxpayer!

excellent letter to the editor in todays (sat) ER. I only disagree with blaming this mess on "liberal Council". For more than 25 years police and firefighters unions(associations) have bought and paid for conservative council members votes. Stephanie L Taber would be hard put to research for any no vote from a conservative council member on a police or fire contract ( memorandum of understanding). The liberals are not blameless because as I'v said before " They are like Pavlovian dogs with Stockholms syndrome" They cannot resist the urge to vote for police and fire fighter unions. Remember please that only one independent council member stood up to the police union, and the officer (Todd Boothe) who harassed that council member for trying to bring their excesses under control, is a republican. So could we try not to make this about politics. And move forward with getting rid of these elitists

Let me put it another way: Why are the wages of one group of workers required to be public information and not others.

I think it may be partly due to the influence of the tea (taxed enough already) party. I might have a little sympathy for the privacy of public employees who are still making less than $50,000/year, and who's pension will be substantially less than their regular pay. Most of Chico's citizens would jump at the chance to work for $50,000/yr with a 401k with matching employer contributions. But we in Chico have police officers making $80,000 and more with premium health care, premium retirement pensions, and excessive paid days off. Firefighters making over $234,000/yr also getting exorbitant benefits. Todd Boothe made $86,758 in 2012. He's the one who harassed our city council member for trying to reign the police in. I'm sure we're all weeping bitterly over Todd Boothe having to work for that pittance while only getting 95% of his health care covered, many paid days of, and a virtually free pension at 90% of his regular pay We tax payers have the right to know what we're paying, and what we're paying it for.

Are you saying that the people who pay other peoples income/wages have a right to know just exactly what part of those payments go to income/wages?

Here's what's crazy. Randall Stone is a democrat. Only the political hacks want to make this liberal and conservative. Stone ran for council saying he was going to reform the budget and stop the hollywood salaries.

Yea Stone is into somethings that I'm not all for. But he definitely is not a dittohead for the democrats or republicans. The republicans have always been for higher and higher police and fire salaries without any care for what that meant for the budget or the safety of the community. Mark Sorenson and Shawn Morgan both give police and fire everything they want. Gruendl and Swab are long standing councilors who have also always given in to police and fire. The contributions list from each year shows that. Police only backed conservatives in the last election. Fire picked 2 of each. They picked conservatives, Swab, and the one that was gonna lose. They fought hard to make sure that Randal Stone wouldn't get elected. He did and they were sweating big time. Stone told them what he was going to do. When he did it they put out a full court attack on him both personal and council. The cops followed as well. Booth got in that and got caught with his nose out. So did the firefighters before that.

Stone may be for things I don't like but at least he isn't asking us to pay for extra stuff like Swab and Grundle and Gandolf. And he has been reigning in the budget from the very beginning. If it wasn't for him we still would not be talking about hollywood salaries. Yea the city has other spending problems and Sorenson and Stone have been talking about that. But Stone has taken on the biggest and hardest problem of all and taken a beating for it. It looks like he's not letting up on the audit either. He was the only one that voted against the fire grant also.

Randall Stone is steering the ship. The others are just paddling along. Swab and Morgan are actually fighting the ship.
