First off, you might have read both sides of the argument and your ideology prevailed over science because just about every so called scientist you give credence to just happens to be a libertarian or a member of a right wing think tank usually supported by the fossil fuel energy conglomerates....

Second, there are no "AGW alarmists," as you call them, but there are plenty of concerned scientists and laymen who point out that we are destroying our planet....

Third, there is plenty of evidenced arrived at by many independent observations all over the world that confirm CO2's damaging effects upon our climate/planet....

Lastly, If anything, the models underestimate mankind's effects upon the climate and the global temperature is still rising.... according to NASA and NOAA the warmest 9 years since records have been kept occurred since 2000 and continental US endured it's hottest year in 2012 (They even talk about your "average global temperature")

I decided to take a look at what's going on up here, and it's the same ole same ole.

Sam says that he's read "both sides of the argument", and has decided that AGW 'alarmists' have NO proof. I wonder if Sam EVER looked objectively at the issue.

But Sam, as the venerable scientist he purports to be, knows better than 97% of the true climate scientists involved in AGW studies. Sam must also 'know' that all of these scientists worldwide must be lying frauds, only interested in protecting their 'huge' government and college salaries.

And Sam, in order to believe this wild fantasy, must also believe that the very few anti-AGW 'scientists' out there must be the only real and objective scientists in the field. And he has to ignore the big money being raked in by the likes of Anthony Watts and the others. He has to ignore the ties his favorite denier has to Heartland, which is an outright shill for the Big Fossil energy consorts. This far right political group, among others such as the Koch brothers, funnel money to these so-called skeptics.

Thankfully, most scientists are conscientious and objective. They're ignoring the easy money available to them if they joined the denier crowd.

There is no proof. There may be some correlation but that does not prove causation.
If correlation proves the theory then you must also blame any warming on the fact since the industrial revolution began womenís fashions have changed. For the better I might add.

That's an interesting link, GRANDPA. Thanks!

Yes, I did see those other silly 'discussions' dedicated to you by TWerP. He took your joke about being Zeus just as literally as loco takes my moniker, but what can we expect from a mental patient who thinks you, me and any other 'librul' in this forum are all the same person, and that one person is 'Bob'.

Thoughtful and reasonable conservatives are simply missing in these forums. There ain't one around, just a bunch of hateful fools (well, Sam's not hateful).

I'd think at first that this is an anomaly-- but then, while studying our state and national republicans-- it looks more like the rule.

At the center of the righties' attack on AGW is the absurd belief that all of the true scientists involved in these studies are corrupt-- they're all liars and quacks, fraudulently making everything up to defend AGW.

This is a conspiracy theory that trumps all others. Just imagine the organization that would have to be involved to make this all happen. Who's the leader of this huge, worldwide conspiracy? Does he review every study, every measurement, every last detail to make sure that everything lines up?

Could these thousands of scientists, the 97% who support the theory of AGW, all be this crooked? Do the vast majority of scientists get into their fields just to earn a buck? I can think of many other scientific fields-- other than climate related studies-- where a scientist CAN make big money.

Sam and his ilk say, "Well, they're getting paid by the government, so they're puppets of the government, pure and simple".

Well, they have to be paid by someone. It's hard to do these studies if you're homeless, or if you're doing it part time. And the needed equipment, computers, and trips to Antarctica can get a little pricey.

Only the dreaded 'gummints' have the funds to support this kind of research. And objective research on this topic will certainly not be paid for by Big Energy.

And what is our government? It's our politicians. Next question: do our politicians support AGW?

Repub politicians do not support AGW. In repub Virginia the seawater is rising, but they won't address the problem because it would mean that they accept global warming. So they stick their heads in the (wet) sand, instead. They call the problem "recurrent flooding", and will not accept that the problem will get worse.

That's just one example. Our politicians (the government) get paid lots of money to be against AGW.

Oil and gas companies funded an average of $59,000 to each repub in the House in 2012.($11,000 to each (dem). In the Senate they paid an average of $66,000 to each repub ($30,000 to each dem).

In 2012 oil and gas companies paid $5,534,365 to Romney's campaign ($800,000 to Obama).

Three quarters of Americans are against continuing the ridiculous tax breaks for Big Oil. But they still get their tax breaks. And repubs keep saying that gas prices would go down if there was even more public land leased to the oil companies. There's currently 37 million acres of public land leased-- but unused-- by oil companies. The repubs don't care about our gas prices. They care only about getting more campaign funding from the Big Boys.

If I was an honest climate scientist in a repub state, I'd be afraid for my job.

On the money as usual! My take on Virginia, they won't act accordingly )to the rising ocean), no FEMA money next Atlantic hurricane.

Iím tired of paying for stupid!

Same for the richass idiots in Colorado who built their million dollar houses in the forest and are now whining that government couldnít save them.

I donít believe that they are all lying frauds but there are definitely some frauds out there proven by the email scandal from a couple years back. Numbers are fudged to get the climate models to output the results that the AGW alarmists want.

The scientists may not get wealthy working for the government or universities but $80k plus for an easy government job with plenty of benefits and retirement is worth hanging on to. Especially if there is not a large demand in your field in the private sector. The scarier they make the scenarios the more money they get from our gullible politicians. I run into quite a few college grads doing menial labor jobs because there are no openings in the field they trained in, that is why it isnít hard to believe that some people will go to any lengths to hang onto their funding.

True scientists? What is your definition of a "true scientist'?

Attack on AGW? How can anyone attack a theory? Theories are questioned. In science someone comes up with a theory. An experiment is conducted to test the theory. The results are analyzed to see if the theory is correct. If theories cannot be questioned then you don't have science. There is no attack on the AGW theory. It is being questioned.

The thing Comrade, is that no one knows for sure why there was some warming in the past. No one knows why there was cooling in the past. Many of the scientists who don't believe that the minuscule amount of CO2 that man puts in the atmosphere is the cause of any climate change state that at this time our knowledge of the climate system is insufficient to know why the climate does what it does.

To me that is the more reasoned response than some of your AGW alarmists who state they know exactly why the climate changes even though they have no proof and their models all fail dismally.
