Moving out that way next year with my family and would love to hear people's thoughts about Sharon Springs (and nearby areas too). I realize this could be risky on here considering some of the topics and comments that come through on this forum, but I've seen enough people give thoughtful responses on this site to give it a chance.

What do you like most about Sharon Springs? What brought you there/keeps you there? We've got kids, so how is Sharon Springs Central School(or other schools in that area)? Where do people generally commute to for work? Is there a good sense of community there? Is Sharon Springs a good place to start a small farm? What have been the major challenges to living in this area?

A lot of questions, but any thoughtful responses are appreciated. I'm really just trying to get more of a sense of the area and to see what draws people there. Thank you very much!

Sharon Springs central school is a very great school with encouraging teachers and staff. We have a sense of community spirit here, unlike in big cities where many people don't even know their own neighbors. A major challenge of living here is that it is hard to commute to Albany everyday for work, unless you consider working a Walmart distribution center, Sharon School, or many of the local farms and businesses.
