"The newspaper says the average salary of state workers on the list is $50,298."

"The list didn't include 21 agencies that are considered political entities outside of Virginia's executive branch. It also doesn't include employees whose compensation comes from non-state sources."

The list also didn't include the majority of state employees. It was selective and VERY skewed to make it look like state employees make very good wages.

That is NOT the case!

If the AVERAGE is $50,298 for all the state employees in Virginia, that suggests that they make lousy wages. Especially since those two top salaries skew it higher. As a state employee I can tell you state employment does not equal very good wages. Most of my fellow employees work a second job. The general public tends to forget that state employees are paid out of tax monies, and no one seems to consider what else comes out of tax monies. Apparently we are supposed to have some great perks to make up for it. Holidays don't pay the bills, the insurance is pitiful, and only a small minority are eligible for overtime. I work here because I enjoy my job and it's not readily available in the private sector. I am curious, however, as to why these top earners are worth that amount of money.

I'll bet we could find a couple of people to do the job better for a 100,000 a year....

We be very proud and thankful to the news people that uncovered this outlandish high pay for state workers. So this must be the reason why so many colleges tuitions is way high and unaffordable for people of color and workn low income peoples. The government needs to step in and puts a cap on salaries of the high-paid state employees staff and administrators ats state supported colleges and universities! We needs to share the wealth in our great chocolate city and state. Now is the time for all peoples of color to unite and embrace the great national social society of CHANGE and HOPE that Obama has given us! POWER to the PEOPLE! Praise Allah!

Your dead on on this one. I don't work for the state, but I can tell you that the "dogs" who do the work for us make very little. BTW T.D. show us the list, and put back up the local gov. list on your web site.

It does not seem fair that any state employee should be making over half a million $ annually.

Wrong yet again nothead.

Mine was among the 92,000 employees salaries that were sent to the Richmond Times Disgrace under the FOIA request.

Don't you deranged racist "Teabaggers" ever get tired of being wrong?

Really!!! Are you sugesting that "people of color" should pay lower tuition. You might do some research..... it is far easier for a minority to receive aid than it is for the non-monority. I am in no way defending the saleries. I do believe there should be more affordable education. I also agree that all need to unite but not all of color.... ALL AMERICANS. That is the change that the country needs. Unite only a certain group and you have created segregation... is that the answer?

Unlike you nothead, I do have a job, and yes, I do work for the state.

You on the other hand, just lie about being a "top senior adviser" to the governor.

Even Dandy Doug Wilder wouldn't be stupid enough to hire a deranged racist "Teabagger" like you IN ANY CAPACITY!
