I talk with EKU graduates all the time. As often as 4 evenings each week. They are always respectful and do their very best to make sure the pizza is hot when they get there. But that's what gets them the tips!

I went to MCHS and felt that I received a wonderful education; it truly is student and parent dependent. If you want to learn and you have proper encouragement at home, MCHS provides all of the resources you need. That being said, I recall students from Model transferring to Central and they often had been educated beyond what we had learned at MCHS. For example, one student was able to test out of the first two semesters of high school science courses and two semesters of algebra. I would have relished the opportunity to learn at the accelerated rate that Model students received. I think that Model should remain open as it is of great benefit to the education program at EKU and is an excellent school. I think that parents of MHS students should be willing to accept a tuition increase because it is an outstanding education at less than 50% of the cost of other private schools in the area. For example, currently Model's tuition for grades 1-12 is $2124/year. Lexington Christian Academy charges between $7552 and $9345 for grades 1-12. Lexington Catholic charges between $8465 and $10310. Thus, an increased tuition at Model would still be far less than other private schools in the area.

Does anyone have any updates on the future of Model? As I understand it, it will at the very least be open for 2013-2014, but beyond that I am uninformed.

Tuition increase for Model has been approve for 500 dollars a year for next school year and the following year so will be open through 2015 school year atleast. All you trashy bastards saying you know it is closing can crawl back into your holes for a couple of years.

Please cease and desist speaking poorly about your father. I would bet he is not a trashy bastard like you said.

Model needs to close. It has out lived its usefulness and the students deserve better.

I mean why even send a kid to a school that you know is going to make him or her a social outcast in their own town for the remainder of their lives.

The black eyes they bring home from the county kids is reason enough to not send them there.

After reading several of these posts, I think all should reflect on the influences that any Madison County school had on you all.

Central scores on average the same as Model, with the exception Central graduates 17 times the people Model does.
As for enlightening you. Can't be done as you seem to me to be beyond help. 84 percent went to college from last years class.
As for inferior to Model. Wrong, that is not why people dislike Model students. We are tired of hearing how well daddy and mommy are doing and how easy they got it, when we know they are liars. If their parents have any money, they probably got it from an inheritance because if they graduated from Model, in my opinion they are way to ignorant to support themselves so anything they have must have been gave to them.
So make no mistake, jealousy is not the issue. Wondering why so many can for so long be left out of a good education and the things they missed because their parents were dumb enough to send them there.
But listen, if you are happy being at Model, then great. I figure it is like special education kids. See, if they were bright enough to know they are in the retard class, they would feel bad. But as it is, because we all know they are retards, does not mean they do not feel great about themselves and their classes.
From reading your post, you seem to be fairly functional in today's society, so consider yourself lucky there pinhead.
I can't believe you would refer to special Ed students as "retards!"

I am dumbfounded by the number of people living in the past! Things may have been different 20 yrs ago but I really don't think there is a lot of animosity between model kids and county kids. I have 3 kids at model and they have plenty of friends from other schools. Its just not an issue. My kids go to central sporting events and cheer them on. We were so happy when central won state! As for being outcasts in Madison county I could care less! I am preparing my kids to live in the world not Madison county. And rightfully or not central and southern are not viewed very highly by people outside of Madison county. People are impressed when they learn my kids go to model and are aware its a top rated school. I do not view myself or my kids as superior to anyone. Or elite because they go to model. So what? As pointed out model is not really that expensive and anyone can go. Its not elite just a choice some people make. There are some wealthy families there but most are like me. My husband and I both work and sacrifice new cars and other things so our kids can go to model. Some factors for our decision was high text scores, small class size, and on site afterschool care. And btw everyone must submit act or sat scores to get into any college. This was true when I went 25 yrs ago...
