Take the decision to hire 3 new administrators seriously. Get men and women who will make Central the best for everyone involved. Not a dictator and no a pushover.
One principal should be a minority. Is Ms. Skepple available?
Avoid pretty boys with youthful faces. Kids respect silver hair.
Stop looking a policies you cannot or will not enforce.
Is the PASS program working and should more students be suspended?
Is 5 minutes enough time between classes...think about floating teachers also.
Should a cross walk be built over 2nd street?
Should ag classes be separate from the main building?
Does Driver's ed, ROTC (2 rooms), math labs etc. need as much space as they have?
Does ISS work? Should it be used more with one PASS person moved over to ISS?
Should Coach Ford only deal with Truancy while having an office that could be used for a classroom?
Are special ed kids given too many breaks?
Shouldn't the freshman be in one hallway?
Are the halls big enough for all 4 grades to have same schedule?
Does SSR work?
Should art have a classroom and studio?
Should bathrooms be locked?
Just some issues to grapple with

Geez, what a disappointment. I thought this was going to be a SMBD discussion.

Bring Ms. Skepple to Central. Excellent science teacher. Good with discipline. Would be firm and fair.

Concerned, are you on the Site Based Council? If not you should be. You have some great issues and ideas. If not at least see if you can get on the agneda and propose these questions to them.

Yes these are issues that might need to be looked at in the future. However, I am curious as to who you really are. You seem to think about issues most would not think of. However, you might want to do your research. Some of these things are dictated by parameters that schools must work within and cannot be changed.

Any word on who will be interviewing?

My response to your statments
Minority candidate-just hire the best person for the job
Suspensions are dictated from central office, bad PR when high # of students are suspended
Pass time in hallways is more than adequate, most roaming teachers are placed on one floor and don't have to travel up/down floors.
State will not fund crosswalk over 2nd st, not feaseable.
Ag classes have their infrastructure built around current classrooms, plus its really not that far away.
Drivers Ed needs a classroom, ROTC has two instructors that need two rooms, math lab could be condensed.
ISS DOES NOT WORK UNDER CURRENT SETUP, it is a JOKE
Coach Ford doesn't have a classroom, he has an office-He is the AD
Special Ed kids are pampered by some teachers-not all
Freshman Academy is defunct, they need to be amongst the school body, not sheltered.
Hallways are a little crowded, but school in not close to reaching its maximum size in relation to student body
SSR works for those that make it work
Art-if needed classroom could be used for other classes
Bathrooms are locked for discipline reasons, but they are available for students in between class and one hallway is always open.
Like your points, make sure to hit the new SB up with these issues

Drivers ed kids are either teacher assistants or on the road. Stage in the gym is an idea.
Freshmen need one more year to mature. We push them too soon. They need their own assistant principal in close proximity to the students. They need to be arranged in teams. I really think they need a 9th grade center for both Southern and Central.
The ag room is a disaster waiting to happen. Not locked.Turpin and Congo don't want to open the doors and can't hear anyone knocking from their desks. Another classroom in the center would help. Move ROTC there. Move drivers ed to the gym stage. Free up 3 classrooms. Send PASS students back to Belvue.

Ms.Shade had to go all over the bldg. last year.

MC does not need three more classrooms. None of the teachers even roam anymore except Mr. Jaggie for one class. MC is using the facilities in an appropriate way.
Glad to see people interested but I would really rather see people attend SBDM meetings to voice opinions or run to be on SBDM. SBDM does not make some of these decisions listed above anyway and I doubt the council gets on TOPIX anyway.
I would also like to see more parents involved in ways that don't include complaining about situations but helping come up with solutions to real problems. Many things come down to funding and money.
As for the PASS program, it has been successful for those kids and there is no alternative school anymore-they can't be sent to Bellvue. Most of the kids at Day Treatment are court ordered to be there and they take the spots that are available.
Two Cents above makes good points as well.
