I personally talked to Mayor Barnes yesterday. I was amazed City Hall actually called me back when he returned to his office. His first response was that I was not there and the Richmond Register did not include all the facts and he was going to call the Register to try to straighten some things out. The second thing he stated was the fact they he and Mr. Howard did not handle the situation correctly and things should have been handled better. He then stated that citizens did not understand how hard it was being the Mayor and citizens are constantly upset about something.. Last time I checked to become Mayor you make a decision to be elected. If you can not handle yourself in a professional manner by all means do not run. If you can not handle dealing with the public you have no business putting yourself in a position to be elected. I work in a customer service driven industry and deal with irate customers everyday. If i treated customers the way the local administration treated the Maupin lady I would be fired. Believe it is time for Mayor Barnes to step down if he can not act better than a 12 year old little brat that does not get their way. Don't let the door hit you in the ass!
could not have said it better myself.

The problem is that nobody really qualified, honest and with the best interest of the city wants this thankless job. That is why people like this keep getting in.

Folks, I am your Buddy..this lady is trying to scam the city and King wants to hire another Buddy to help. Her problems are her own. Just drive by and look at this Lady's driveway. How can water NOT flow down? Who would have purchased this place to begin with? Well, the answer is an insurance person. Whatever you personally think of the Mayor and City, this is a shakedown of us taxpayers. don't be fooled. This Lady's problem will always be with her even if the City spends $50,000 on her driveway. Tear the house down and save us city taxpayers.

Does anyone remember Virgil McWhorter? Wasn't he the Mayor at one time? Kind of reminded me of a Boss Hogg type person, if I recall. There's nothing wrong with Mayor Barnes except for some inexperience which gets better the longer you have to put up with azzholes who think they know everything when THEY actually have no experience. I've known Jim for a long time(I grew up next door to "Granny" Barnes-a nice old lady). I remember her wringing the necks off live chickens and watching them flop around the yard before she'd throw them in scalded water and then skin their feathers so she could cook them later for what I'm sure was a good meal. Maybe he needs to tell Commish King if she don't start behaving herself, he may do the same thing to her!

There is your answer folks. People get elected on stupid shit like living next door and wringing chicken necks. Vote for qualified people so the can accomplish things. Goverment will never run like a business because businessmen don't care who they make mad to accomplish a task. Barnes has shown he is not up to the job. Laura King is not up to the job. Truth is there is no difference between Barnes and King. I say let's find someone who can run this city and beg the to run for mayor.

Eat one bud.. This was over 50 years ago and Jim didn't even live there. It was his GRANNY. What has the Mayor done to you, anyhow? Not hire your 'ho that's on the side to a job with the city? Seems like you need to get a life(or a JOB).

Most voters don't use common sense. Our two most educated, qualified city commissioners were voted out last election (Richard Thomas & Jason Morgan). And lets not forget about the over educated, under qualified community organizer who was elected President!! Politicians and CEO's of industry need to work their way up the ladder to be successful. Next election lets look at Richmond's movers & shakers, not necessarily current elected officials. There may have to be some arm twisting to get qualified candidates to even consider running for office......

Maupin's water problem has alway been there. She is trying to hang a repair job on the city. The basement of that house is faulty and King is always looking for trouble. She is crazy.
If you read the article or watch the meeting, you will hear that the water problem was RESOLVED...until the city decided to remove/revise the project.
And regardless of ANYTHING...no grown man or woman...especially one representing a city should EVER behave like that. If he acts like this in front of public, Just makes me wonder how he acts behind closed doors???

I did absoulutely read and watch and I know personally that the water problem was not resolved after the initial repair by the owner. That is the crux of the story and the Big Scam. We will just have to diagree.

Ann Durham's daughter plans to be the next mayor. Barnes was thrilled to have Ann's support. I doubt he is as thrilled, now, when he gets the other side of Ann's attention. The total irony or idiocy of the whole thing is that Ann's daughter is woefully lacking in any training, education or interpersonal skills for public life...but then again, crude and redneck has always been big in the Durham and Luxon families.
