Send them to Madison Central. The diversity of programs is outstanding for the area. Performing arts program is top in the state. They offer an honors track and a lot of AP classes if academics is your concern. On tests Central outperforms Southern.

Both schools will be what the student and parents make of them. How involved will all parties be? That what really matters. Both schools have great programs and teachers.

Sure there are good & bad kids at both schools. Right now there is a lot in the news that is not so good about a group from Southern. I would not want my child hanging out with that group. What district do you live in?

Neither they both are horrible. Test scores at both schools are way below average. Teachers are underpaid and Madison Co. Board of Education could care less!

Madison Central is not horrible. It has some of the most impressive programs that I've seen. I have a son that is a high achieving student there and I would put his education up against any other in the area. Many that are unsatisfied are uninvolved parents who like to blame others. Trust me, I've been teaching for over 20 years and the schools here have great things to offer, you just have to communicate with the schools and take advantage of what is available.

Newby sounds a little "uninformed".

They're both good schools. They're both a little overcrowded, even after the Southern expansion, so there are some tensions caused by crowding and a high student to teacher ratio. Central does have more success in their extracurriculars than Southern, so if that is important to you, keep that in mind. Central also offers a bit more in advanced academic programs. Southern has a bit less diversity, if that is important to you.

Both will give your child a good education if you take advantage of it. To do this, there has to be parental involvement in the student's education. If you're just expecting to dump your child at the school and have the teachers do all the work, then which school isn't going to make a damn lick of difference.

That's what most Topix posters really want is just a baby sitter for their kids. Either school with do that just fine.
