Have you heard that Michelle Obama is speaking at this years commencement. All this time in school, studying hard, and now, when it is our time to walk across that stage, they do this.

I am going to do as the others and turn my cap and gown in to the President and tell him to mail my diploma.

My only question is what idiot booked a Democrat for an Eastern Kentucky School?

As I understand it, the majority of the graduating class will not be there. EKU has betrayed us, the very students that paid our cash. EKU is trying to push fools onto us. We will not participate.

The consensus being that we would be happier with anyone, Charles Manson even, as our speaker. But why book someone that no one cares about and everything she says is a lie like her useless husband.

So count me in with the 141 signatures they had yesterday of students that are not going to be graduating.

I'm SO glad to hear this! The WH contacted EKU and of course they were thrilled. Now why did the WH contact them? Could it be because Mitch is up for reelection soon? Because they don't campaign in this state otherwise? Because they have no Dem to run against Mitch at this point? Stand up students and tell them just how ignorant this is.

I do not blame the kids for not wanting her to speak at their graduation ceremony. She would probably be lying anyway. Either way she is a democrat so she can have no valued opinions.

The First Lady will be speaking at EKU as part of her Joining Forces initiative to assist military families. Eastern has received national recognition in recent years for its commitment to helping veterans further their education. EKU, home to more than 1,200 veterans and their dependents, earned a No. 1 national ranking in 2010 and 2012 from Military Times magazine in its annual “Best for Vets: Colleges” issues.

That is why she is going to speak.
So, don't tell me, as a democrat she can have no valued opinion.

Unless, of course, you don't value what our Vets have done, and what EKU has done to help them, and their families.

I am a vet and it has been my experience that any assistance to vets is mostly lip service. In the case of EKU, it is no different. I recently applied and was accepted. When I emailed their vet office for information on how to proceed because it has been two decades since I have had anything to do with a university, I got a curt reply to contact my advisor in a few months using horrible grammer. Basically a brush off. No give us a call and we will pair you with a current student. No answers to some of my specific questions I sent them. No thanks for choosing us. Just a brush off. Vets at EKU are just gonna be another human backdrop for this administration to use in effort to gather money and votes for the next election.

Really, I am sorry you had that experience.
Maybe phone calls and visits in person would be more helpful to you ? Just a suggestion.

As a Vet, I would like to thank you for your service to our country, and wish you nothing but the best.

really, I am wondering, have you taken your DD214 to EKU, in person to get help with your desire to seek education there?

Yes, EKU has received all sorts of fake recognition in recent years. You know how simple it is to get this crap? It means NOTHING. If you believe she's here for that reason and not for politics you're insane.

EKU can be tough to navigate. There is a total of 1 person in the Student Services Building I trust. She is a GA. Way too many of the others are absolutely incompetent. I'm down an entire semester due to their undeclared advising.

May I speak on this subject? As a US veteran I can tell you that it is clear in the US military. Nothing any Democrat can say is of any merit. I mean come on, have they not proved they are all liars that can no longer be trusted?

As far as speaking at these students Graduation. Why should they, the ones that are graduating, not have the say in the ceremony? Why should the school get someone so against what the students want, and cause all those students to sit out their graduation.

I agree it does not seem fair, and the powers that bee need to consider is Doug Whitlock the right person for the job. Your tuition pays his salary, and he says screw you.

But I agree the best message the students could send it to abstain from the proceedings. Maybe it will make the TV news as she speaks to an empty room.

I am graduating from Eastern's College of Education and although I and my family are glad I made it and am graduating. However, this turn of events, allowing this woman to even be there, much less speak.

I have asked my family to not come as I will not be there. We can just do a family thing somewhere else.

As a graduate of EKU I can only wish I had known this 4 years ago. I would have spent my money elsewhere.

I will also spend a good deal of time warning other potential students of this schools treachery. To get all the way through only to find we have been sold out as a political advertisement to further the goals of a political party that has gone to great lengths to destroy this country.

If I can get my, and many others way, we will insure that EKU's enrollment reflects this disservice as early as next semester. So help us all to get the word out as to what they did to us.

If we graduating students can drop the enrollment by as little as 20 percent, then EKU will learn a valuable lesson as they decide who to let go because our monies are not there. That will show them the power of the student and the dollar.

EKU works very hard to get a speaker with notoriety to come to your graduation and you complain? I understand your politics, you are all super conservative and against the Obama administration, got it. But let me be frank. EKU is not nationally recognized, or esteemed as much as other schools. Obama speaking at your grad is a great thing for you and your school. I do however applaud you for making your opinions known, making a statement by sitting out of your graduation, because it is something you believe in.

Funny that you used the word "notoriety" meaning generally known and talked of; especially : widely and unfavorably known. While I don't think EKU wanted someone notorious, that is what they got. I think they would have loved and do seek the famous....

Politics and Mrs. Obama fan or not....this is not the point.

The point is that a university with ailing enrollment just made the choice to put politics and publicity over the students. This graduation should be about the students who have spent thousands of dollars and countless house to earn their degree. Instead it will be a media circus and bully pulpit for this administration. Shame on you EKU, no wonder enrollment is down.

And if what I am hearing around campus is any sign, once the students get down with them they will have little or no enrollment.

All I can say is I hope they win, and tear the place down and return it to the farmland it once was.

A really good day to stay out of Richmond. We are changing our plans to avoid this nightmare and my son says he just as happy skipping it altogether. Degree still counts and we don't sit through the first lady BS.

EKU could really make news with a lack of turnout for Obama.

We have already made the same decision. And yes, I hope no one shows and sends a clear message to Washington by way of EKU screwing with their students.

To the admin of EKU... I have two more daughters that will not be going to EKU due directly to your handling of this disgrace EKU has perpetrated on this years graduates.

The loss of revenue in future years will be directly a result of this poor decision.

@Driver....

So you are an advocate of putting 3000 people out of work at EKU? What would would that do? In short, Richmond would cease to exist. Without EKU, the largest employer in Madison County, all of the businesses from McDonald's to Kroger would go under. Thus, the number of people who would become unemployed would climb exponentially. Have fun in your Third World .

@Away From Here....

Regardless of your political affiliation, one of the most well known people in the WORLD asked to come speak to the the graduates of EKU. Why can't you look outside of your shell and realize that this is a coup for EKU to have the First Lady of the United States, regardless of politics, speak at graduation.

All of this rhetoric just further fosters the stereotypes that we Kentuckians have to try and counter on a National and Global level. All you are doing is contributing to the wrong impressions that most people feel about Kentucky.

Alright! And the strong survive. EKU has long been a blight on this area. Should it cease to exist, would be of little concern to anyone beyond those employees directly affected and some dope dealers dealing in the form of alcohol. They can go under too for all anyone cares..

Yea, close it and take us back to 1900. It's where we want to be.
