My Grandfather has recently discoverd that the ring he bought for my Grandmother 25 years ago has been stolen out of his safe! The other items stolen was a handgun and prior to that a shotgun that was in his family for 60years! C'Mon how in the heck can the family help him find out WHO is responsible for stealing. Pawn shops say they cant tell you what items a person has brought and sold to them??!! I know that someone knows somethinG and the family may be willing to pay for HELPFUL & HONEST information! Clues are that the family is positive it IS a family member who IS a drug addict. NO BS PLEASE

that sucks, sorry to hear that. i don't know you so there's really no way for me to help, but make sure those items are reported stolen to the police. at least you will have a paper trail.

you'll have to go to the pawn shops around here and look for your stuff. like you say, they won't tell you anything. they're totally worthless for everything except promoting criminal activity.

you might think about helping your grandfather find a better container to keep his things in - a real safe should be VERY hard for the average person to get into without a lot of time and noise. also, remind him to not give out the combination.

good luck with your search.

I was under the impression that if you had a police report, pawn shops will help. They can get busted for receiving stolen property so they should cooperate, but the ones here are no better than the trash that sells to them.

If there was no break in, and surely that would have been noticed, then how did it happen? Who has access to the safe? Do they know the combination? Are they in some bind, drugs, owe money, etc..?

Why is this so difficult for people?
IF YOU HAVE BEEN VICTIMIZED, CALL THE POLICE AND REPORT IT! YOU CANNOT MAKE ANY PROGRESS BY TRYING TO DO YOUR OWN INVESTIGATION.
Report the theft to the police, and THEY can check pawn tickets for items similar to what you have reported stolen.
THEY CANNOT/WILL NOT TELL YOU WHO PAWNED SOMETHING, BUT THEY CAN/MUST TELL THE POLICE.

If you call the police, then there is the chance they will show up, become confused, and shoot you or another innocent person. Google how often this happens. The police are a liability that if avoided makes for the better resolution. Then they are so limited in what they can do. They can ask the suspect and if he does not want to answer, well then that's that.

Other people believe as long as BernzOmatic makes propane torches, the truth can be had.

Your ANSWER seem a little defensive? Not surprising tho!

Very helpful Bill, Thanks. This has happened so many times to him that he doesn't have the energy anymore but family will encourage him to go to the police and file a report.

you are all so damn dumb.....

First, off, the pawn shop is right, they CAN'T release that information to the general public.

but they HAVE to release that information to the police.

if you can prove you owned an item and it was reported stolen, and now you see it in the pawn shop, call the police and let them know....

they will confiscate the item from the pawn shop (hence, they just lost the money they paid for the item) and turn over the information from the seller.

god, you people are so frickin stupid!

!! Didn't mean to upset you PAWN advocate! Sometimes there are so much stuff that has been stolen, that it is easier to give you the name of the seller (because we got your reminder card in the mail) and you tell us what they sold??

Actually the pawn shops in this town do take stolen merchandise. They just don't report it to the police. Guns and such will probably end up in another town. Jewelry is generally sold for the precious metal content. But its not just the Pawn shops most of the Jewelry stores do the same with the precious metals.
