Mr. Young was always very polite and respectful to myself and my children. That last comment is absurd! My children loved him.

Mr. Young was a very good principal, and it is White Hall's loss that he is gone. He will be a great teacher at Foley, if that is what he chooses to do, but I hope he finds another job as a principal somewhere else.

I'm kind of thinking he would be in jail if what "meat" said were true.

So tell me why does a Principle making twice the money, would step down to a teacher position?

Sometimes to keep things quite people get offered transfer or fired. I mean the Catholic Church has to do that with Priest all the time.

So the question remains what did he do?

The world of education has totally changed. The belief now is that a principal comes in and moves people around. This is thought to shake them up, make them more on their game and bring change. This might mean taking a 5th grade teacher to 1st grade. Anyone that is in the classroom can tell you it takes a long time to understand the needs, skills and appropriate requirements for each grade. To move people that have been teaching in an area for years, have spent thousands of dollars of their own money and perfected what needs to be done for a certain grade is foolish. This is a trend that will be gone in a few short years because people will realize this is not what is best for students.

This is happening all over this county. Sometimes it is done to be punish an employee they don't like, sometimes to force them to retire, sometimes to put someone they like in a certain grade and occasionally they truly think it is best. It is seldom for the best. This would be like a Toyota working doing a particular job for 15 years and the supervisor walking in on Monday and saying you are switching to something you have never done and leaving something you do know for something you will have to learn. This breeds anger, disgust and mistrust. It is not good for the students that then become part of the next years learning curve.

My guess is this coupled with other factors was the problem. One mistake by their site base was in hiring a high school person in the first place. Anyone in elementary school should have taught that age group in order to understand what it takes to successfully lead.

They will be fine. White Hall was a wonderful school before he got there and it will be wonderful now that he is gone.

Lack of support and professionalism. As the saying goes, "the best don't always finish first"!!!

My child has gone to White Hall since kindergarten. It was a wonderful experience until fifth grade. He is good student. "Richmond" obviously has not had a student in fifth grade at White Hall. The whole atmosphere of learning, professionalism and respect goes away in fifth grade. Several of us parents were asking all year for help to tutor our children because they weren't receiving the instruction in class. One of the Asst. Superintendents moved his child out of White Hall in fifth grade because he felt it wasn't in the best interest of the child that they remain there. Mr. Young is a professional and caring person. My child really loved him, and will remember him always. I believe teachers should remember why they are there and do what is best for the kids. I trust Mr. Young and believe any changes he tried to make would be for the benefit of the children.

Richmond, if someone is an elementary teacher why shouldn't they be willing to teach all elementary grades? Are they there for the children, or are they there for what makes them most comfortable? I don't guess I understand that reasoning. When they become a teacher, I feel they should always do what is best for the student no matter how much money they have spent or how they have "perfected their classroom". Change is good when it comes to our children. Because they have tenure, doesn't allow them to get to say how they work. Tenure is not always a good thing. It is good if they are good teachers. We need good teachers who are willing to go above and beyond for our kids.

Many years ago when you graduated from a teaching program you were certified to teach 1-8 that it is no longer the case. One of the reasons that was done is the many curriculum changes and the changing needs of children. It has nothing to do with being comfortable but more to do with doing what you have a firm grasp on. School is not the 3 R's anymore and each grade is very specific in terms of what they need that particular year. Fifth grade does not resesmble the primary and each grade takes a long time to understand that age child and what the curriiculum requires to be taught. This would be like going to an orthopedic specialist that has done nothing but operate on broken bones for 10 years and saying alright I now want you to start operating on peoples hearts. I can assure you they would look at you and say I have no idea where to start. They have perfected their skill and would not know where to start with another area. For every teacher moved after spending years in a particular grade I can assure you the children suffer for the first 1-3 years as they learn the needs, demands, and curriculum of that new level.

This is a fad that will cease because it will be realized it is harmful to kids. The problem with the public understanding that this is a negative thing for children is they still think of school as it was when they were a student and the demands were so much less.

Let's pray it's not a fad as Richmond feels. I would really like to know that all will be done by the School Board to insure that my child will get all he can from his school, and if this means switching teachers, that's should be done. I believe the fifth graders at White Hall have been failed. That's all there is to that. This doesn't mean they are bad people, but they are obviously in the wrong place. It seems it would reflect better for them if they could switch grades. I guess you get set in your ways. Change is hard for all of us.

It is very sad. We teachers, except for about seven people, loved and appreciated Mr. Young. We will miss him terribly. We do understand why he left. We wish him the very best. Good things come to good people. And, he is a good people!

I would be curious as to what percentage of your actual teaching faculty 7 represents. Is it 20% 50% what amount?

Why are we even continuing to talk about this? He is gone and whether it is good or bad he is gone. Let the man go on with his life.

I have known Chris Young since his days at EKU, I promise you he won't be down long. He will take this experience, and turn it into something positive-he is that guy.
