What would you do in this situation? A little old lady with DEMENTIA called the police. Apparently she "THOUGHT" she heard gunshots and said they were coming from our vicinity at 1:12am...(not knowing any of this when) the Police banged on our door and said they had a call about gunshots coming from our area... We told them we were awake and didn't hear a thing... They were very rude... The police or anyone else doesn't know the little old lady with DEMENTIA was hearing things... and I think we should let them know.. she told us "I'm sorry I woke you all up,I called the police and they were just checking on me" What would you do?.. Call or not?.. Report the 2 policemen for being rude and unprofessional, and hiding behind the door where we couldn't see them thru the peephole...and didn't really know if it was a policeman or not?

Well partially in their defense. If I were responding to a shots fired call. I would avoid the peep hole as well. If it is a crazed gunman inside, you don't want to give him a free shot at the cops.

IfI were going to a report of a shot of a gun being fired at 1AM in the morning, I would probably be more concerned about where that shot came from and not putting a smile on your face. For all the police know, you could be the one shooting. Plus, standing out from in front of the front door sounds like a pretty good way to stay alive..
Also, did they have a crystal ball to tell them the old lady had dementia? They're going to a SHOTS FIRED call. I mean serious. Hell, if you were being shot I bet your post would read different. They came to your residence with the frame of mind to stay alive and protect the public, not wave in a parade at 1AM.
I was an officer for years in another city, and you get this wherever you go. No appreciation for the risk, or career.

Then why do so many police cars say "To protect and serve"?

One must be proven guilty in a court of law and not a public lying cesspool. He is innocent until proven otherwise and you can't be so dumb as to start here instead of speaking with authorities.

its according to where you live is the reason the RPD treats you the way they do when they respond to calls. You must live in a known "RED ZONE"

I live in a good neighborhood and the first thing I'm thinking when the police bang on my door is: Someone in my family has been in an accident.

Honest, this happened when we lived with inlaws in Crab Orchard, Ky a few years back. We heard screams and gun shots in middle of night,so we called 911!
One hour and 3 minutes later a state cop showed up at our back door! he had been watching us for a few minutes (even asked why I was behind that door) I opened it to show him it was bathroom!
He said well that would be a normal thing then wouldn't it! We explained all to him and he went to open field behind house.
About 5 minutes later he came back, still in a old grumpy mood and said well I don't see any tracks in the grass. Just call back if someone comes back!
I ASKED why don't you get help and check that field? He said well if they got out of a car they would have left a track! Folks around here just don't fly you know! I said well I think someone should walk that whole field1
The old smart aZZ cop said well lady if you see buzzards swarming around that fields in the next few days call me back and gave me his name on a peice of paper! sounds like at least your cop was professional in his job!
I was glad to move back here!
no way

I had a similar situation happen to me. A couple years ago I had a nosy landlord. She waited for all of us to be out of the house and then called 911 reporting she heard gunshots. She knew we weren't home because both the cars were gone. When I got home about 5 hours later I was told by 2 different neighbors that several police officers had went in my house (my doors were locked)searched my house with guns drawn. My boyfriend lived in the apartment attached to the house and they also searched his place. No one else around the area was asked questions, or had their homes searched. When I called to find out why they had searched our places, they said they had probable cause to search because the gunshots reported, and then refused to give me the name of the person that called in this report.

Where can I get a report of the police coming to my door? That should be open records, right?

I do want to add that most officers with the RPD are very good and respectful. I have called them before and reported a disturbance and they are quick to respond.
