Just in the past 4 or 5 years, the general class of citizens in Richmond gone down. Has anyone else noticed this? Methheads everywhere in town you go, you see 'em. Ppl with tattoos up around their neck. That's all Richmond is anymore. What the hell has happened to this place?

Welcome to a city overrun by drugs! Unfortunately I don't think it's uncommon now and you can no longer escape it.

Yeah I hate this town and I was born here. I am so sick of rednecks and drug heads. One or two problems are lack of education and lack of birth control. They just keep breeding and living off everyone else.

1) Pills
2) Economy

Just a horrible combo. You could literally see Richmond changing when the pills hit. Then the economy went down, and that didn't help.

Population plays a part, too. Seems like some decent areas have gone to hell.

^^^ That is also a big problem with richmond, and it isn't just confined to race. Tons of hate in richmond. Race warfare, class warfare, school warfare, whatever....

Everybody needs to make relationships with everybody. People are people. Period. Shitty people are in every color, and guess what? Lot more shitty white folk around these parts.

It's so stupid. I don't how or why people think like that.

Agreed.

Luckily, I haven't had a problem with Richmond's lesser elements - by that, I mean those with drug associations or other criminal inclinations, podunk racists, etc. Mainly because I work at a job that demands extensive background checks & good conduct, have law-abiding & decent friends, live in a clean, safe neighborhood... and I avoid Wal-Mart on government check days - when the "hollers" empty and the most backward of this county (& others) descend upon town to spend my tax dollars, with the **Genuinely** disabled (not just fat or faking), elderly, and/or retired alone being exempt from my ire.

As for understanding the racist mentality, unless you're living in their illusionary little bubble, you can't, not truly. from what I can tell, it has a lot has to do with how they were raised, education levels, where and how they've lived, and who they've associated with throughout their sad little lives.

It's impossible to grasp for those of us who were raised in diverse environments (i.e. not all-white hollers & rinky-dink burgs in the South), had truly loving & fairly intelligent parents guiding us, maybe a bit of church, and just the tiniest bit of education. It is also extremely difficult to cure their affliction, given that you or I would be working against the damage done throughout their whole backward little lives. Better to dismiss them as archaic throwbacks who are socially irrelevant, and move on. Some people are simply lost causes.

Another big problem in Richmond, and I'm not singling you out; you just offered up a perfect example.

"Head in the sand syndrome". People just ignore it and live in their own little world. I'm guilty iof it as well, but it bothers me to no end. You can't even get most people to acknowledge there is any kind of problem. I think a lot of Richmond would gladly hop in a time machine and head back to 1920. Progression is a stupid word around here.

People are people. That "lost cause", or that person you avoid because they are "trash", have a brain that functions very similar to yours.

I think it all goes back to pills, though. Nothing will improve until the Dr's are stopped, and the heroin epidemic following that is stopped. These people technically are criminals, but they are mostly addicts who need serious help. Dr's prescribe this junk, so they should help fix the mess. That isn't as profitable, however, so they'll probably come up with yet another drug to get you off the previous drug, which will eventually lead to another, and a whole new stream of revenue. Shameful.

Drug education would help. I'd say we need that in schools. Didn't exist when I was there. All the useless junk they teach; they could find time for legit drug education. Easy to understand how a not so smart person would assume that prescription pills are safe, or safer, because a Dr gave it to them.

I have noticed from all the schools that I teach at, Madison Central HS is a different class of students. 90% of the student body there looks like future of inmates you see on The Madison County Dentention Center Website. It's just trash invested & this town used to be a lot better, don't know where all these ppl have come from. 2005 when I first moved here, Richmond was a good place with better quality ppl living in it. I want out of here

This younger generation have no standards. All they think about is getting high and getting a free ride.Look around during the day..you will see people everywhere when they should be at work.I run a store and 8 out of 10 customers are young and carrying a EBT card.If they would cut out all this FOODSTAMPS and WELFARE and force people to work for what they want it would cut out all this nonsense.I'm not putting down people who need assistance....but i see people in there 20's that look like they have crawled out of a gutter and high as a kite because they have traded their foodstamps for pills...it's like us working tax payers are buying their drugs. This town and our goverment needs a wake up call.
