So my 9th grader tells me about a planetary alignment yesterday. When I find out which teacher at central is responsible, I will have their job. Teachers should have been debunking all the crazy 12/21 rumors not adding to them.

Can't you just ask your 9th grader which teacher said it to him/her?

I think this posting should become required reading for everyone. It stands out perfectly as what is wrong with the country. This is also a perfect example of way the country is suffering under a pundit president. Because the general population is complete and total fools.

Take this idiot. Old enough to have children but dumber than hell themselves. So there is no way this person can properly raise children.

How can this moron expect to provide parenting answers for the children, or have sense to vote. Plus the ip says they live in Berea.

So come on Geesh.... Sound off with some more of your words of wisdom. Then go watch for the welfare check at the mailbox and leave raising your kids to the school system as so many parents already do.

Just in case you sober up enough to read a clock. Friday was also the shortest day of the year. So the sun has not left us, it will be back tomorrow. Calm down, take your pills or whatever puts you to bed.

I feel sorry for the kid.

Nice to know that everyone is as dumb as the teachers and even worse sitting at a computer and can't google what a solstice is or even verify when the last or the next planetary alignment is. There are nice charts available the show the position of the planets relative to each other. I shouldn't have to spend my days off trying to correct such misinformation being fed my kid.

Q: Could planets align in a way that impacts Earth?
A: There are no planetary alignments in the next few decades and even if these alignments were to occur, their effects on the Earth would be negligible. One major alignment occurred in 1962, for example, and two others happened during 1982 and 2000. Each December the Earth and sun align with the approximate center of the Milky Way Galaxy but that is an annual event of no consequence.

What does the president have to do with an ignorant person living in your county?

Allow me to provide an answer. Ignorant people vote. Ignorant people are more likely to be on welfare, and as always, ignorant people make ignorant statements and dissing on teachers as hard as they work for what little gain just seems wrong.

Especially if you are dissing about something you have no idea about. Kind of a remain quite and let them wonder are you ignorant or speak and prove you are.

Thank you NASA for a bit of explanation for those I am sure just wanted to make smartass comments and not look into the merit of my complaint.

I went to my storage building today and got a couple of old astronomy books I have. While showing my son some things in them and explaining about planetary alignments and conjuctions, he asked when the moon will hit the planet? Seems this same teacher told him that the moon is coming six inches closer to the Earth every year. All I can do is shake my head. I shudder to think that if all teachers are as incompetant, it explains why there are so many dumbasses in the world. Needless to say when school reopens after the first of the year he will not be back in that classroom.

The moon is actually increasing in distance from the earth by about 1.5 inches per year. The teacher is indeed wrong, if this is indeed what they taught him.

I have a hard time believing that a teacher would say the moon is going to collide with Earth. To the contrary, the moon is actually moving, gradually further from Earth. Please do not take this as being rude, but before you go "guns-a-blazing" into the Principal's office, don't you think maybe a meeting with the teacher would get to the bottom of what is being taught?(Thus no misunderstandings). Or, read through your child's text to see exactly what is being taught (or should be).

Just be careful, if there has been a misunderstanding it could be clarified easily with a meeting to set things straight. If you go straight to the Principal demanding the teacher be fired-- then come to learn that maybe your child misunderstood (not a knock against your child-- mistakes happen), or isn't at all what the teacher is teaching, then the entire situation could be made worse on your child.

Handle it how you wish-- I would just advise a bit of tact and kindness first to get to the bottom of the issue before demanding someone's pink slip on a platter.

Good luck to you.

I would consider corroborating the claims of disimformation made by this child with (non-friend) classmates' testimonies, or request a copy of the teacher's notes from that class in question, as opposed to automatically assuming the faculty is at fault. It seems altogether more likely that the child isn't recalling their instruction correctly, or that they've taken it WAY out of context, or (hate to say it but it happens) that the child is simply lying to discredit a teacher they don't particularly like. You are reacting rather emotionally without having assembled all the facts. I suspect that if you take the time to look into this properly, you'll find your concerns to be... misplaced.

Tact-- i.e: might not be wise to start off with "you teachers are a bunch of dumbasses" or "I will have your job" when initially addressing this issue. Should there be some sort of understanding/mistaken information and find that the fault doesn't necessarily lie on the teacher, comments such as those you've posted, if made to said teacher or Principal, could kill your credibility if there are future complaints and could make things worse off on your child knowing how his/her mom feels about them.

Handle the situation calmly and with a bit of tact/class and you will get more accomplished than insults and hatred (at least get to the bottom of the situation before announcing, "I will have her job."
