Last month I asked richmond utilities to turn off my gas for the summer. I was told that even if they shut it off they would still charge me $12 a month and would have to pay a reconnect fee when I needed back on but that is not my only issue. I received my water bill this month and my water was $22 and my sewage was $45. I find this strange because it used to be about $15 a month. What really gets me is my bill last month was $49 total and this month it is $86 and during that billing period we were on vacation for 6 days. Why should these people be able to rob the citizens that they provide for and what can be done about it? I am certain I am not the only one they are screwing over.

They have to have some way to pay for that big new sewer plant they built. I agree we needed it but with all the taxes we pay should they be allowed to stick it to us with the bill too? Look back and see if that isn't when your bill went up. I know for a fact it is.

you are exactly right. the Richmond utilities fees are an absolute joke! when we poor hard working souls try to save a few bucks by turning the gas off in Summer not to mention conserving our natural resources they still find a way to screw us over. the way they charge the sewer fee should be outlawed!

They don't even need a gun and mask to rob a man. Worst part is ya can't just stop using your utilities. Same with gasoline, food, rent etc. All overseen by the gubment. You can only get utilities from one place. Last I knew that was called a monopoly and illegal. But what are we going to do about it? I guess we can rant on the Internet. Lol

do you guys also know that you also pay for water that dont go through the sewer, i ask them about this and they was like any water that goes in has to come out, so i was like when i was my car it dont go into the sewer give my dog water or water the plants it all dont go there so should the sewer be less than the water?

I totally agree with everyone of you. They are robbing us. First they charge tax, then they stick it to us again on the regular bill. It's called double dipping and they can do it legally. We need to make a lot of noise about it, and draw all the attention we can to them. Embarress them and put the pressure on them. Maybe call some tv news out here and see if we can't get someone to answer some questions!

Can't afford a generator cuz my money goes to utilities lol fuel is too high to run a generator and u can't just plug it in to your house and it power it lol there's a lot more than that to it it may save money over a long period of time. Maybe years but the start up cost would be ridiculous. If we raise a big stink or boycott then they'll just jack the price up to recoup their loss or to teach us a lesson and show us who really runs things.

You are what people call "stupid" and I am sorry to inform you there is currently no cure for your condition. The other condition you have "dickhead syndrome" also has no known cure but I hear that an old fashion ass kicking might help you learn to STFU so to speak. As for the water bill I have to assume that you either have your bills paid for by someone else or you work for the water company therefore you are the reason we "normal citizens" are over paying for our services.

I've lived in several cities in 6 different states, ranging from Texas to Northern Indiana, and out in the boonies in a few cases. The cities varied in size from about the size of Waco (but mine was far more removed from other towns than Waco is from Richmond) to Lexington-sized and up. I have to say that the utility prices here are far cheaper than they would be in most of those places now-a-days. Of course they're more expensive than a lot of folks would like, and probably more so than many older folks remember them being here and elsewhere - but so is everything else. Compared to what you could be paying elsewhere at today's going rates, Richmond Utilities ain't bad at all. And, even though this is off-topic, electric through Kentucky Utilities, versus every other place I've lived where the utilities weren't included, is a freaking steal! All in all, I feel like we got it pretty good.
