I love the farmers market. I go every Saturday morning from May to November when it closes. But the location is wrong. The market should be in downtown Richmond. First Street would be an ideal location. It would be a festival atmosphere every Saturday. The Lowes parking lot simply does not have any other activities. So people just drive up, get their produce & leave.

The farmers market should be an event, a place to linger, a place to savor the wonderful bounty of our local farmers. It will never achieve that at it's current location. Don't get me wrong, I'll keep going every Saturday no matter where it is, but it could be so much more if it were downtown.

Unfortunately, some of them aren't farmers. They don't even know what they are selling. It's sad when I know more then they do about what they are selling.

Not all, but some....

Agree, Richmond Farmer's Market, downtown, close off 1st Street between Irvine/Main St, Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Commissioner King and Commissioner Newby lets make this happen. We will take care of those other two commissioners and mayor come election time. This is just good business for everyone downtown.

Some of us for some time have thought about a better location for the farmers market. I'm glad to see that some of our customers feel the same.
I love being a vender there. But also feel the location is lame.
Oh and to "loosers"real farmers have to work..on the farm and cant always sit for four hours (plus set up and break down time) so we have other kind hearts do the vending for us.. not everyone knows everything about farming. But trust me everything there was either made or grown by a farmer...
If your such a good farmer where is your stand? Put your stuff up on the market for comparison.
Im thinking about starting and organizing my own farmers market next year. But would like some support.

When they try to pass off every watermelon as a crimson sweet they are either uneducated or lairs.

Crimson sweet are dark and round. Not oblong and light green.

Contact Mayor Barnes. He is supportive of starting a Farmer's Market in downtown Richmond.

The city should just start it's owm market downtown. It should not sit back and wait. If the existing group wants to stay at Lowe's, let them. Put up the space and recruit other produce vendors. If you build it, they will come. It would at least give the Downtown Coordinator something to do.

I went to the Lowe's market last Saturday. There were maybe 6 booths. Very limited selection of produce. Got a few tomatoes, got in my car & left.

Frustrated, I drove to downtown Lexington. What a difference. Food. Music. Childern, laughing & playing. Dogs on leashes. Ate lunch at a deli. Stayed over an hour and a half.

We are missing out on a big opportunity to promote & get people back to downtown. I can't for the life of me understand why.

I had a meeting on Thursday with the downtown coordinator. This spring I will be starting a new farmers market downtown. With lots of vendors, live music, food and more! We will be closing off 1st street every Saturday. Thanks for the encouragement!Hope to see you all there!

And how easy was that! Who is this person that actually gets some useful stuff done? We need to put you into office, someone that actually gets some useful stuff done around here. Appreciate it.

Sometimes all you have to do is ask.. Lol I guess no one asked until now. I am very proud and excited to be starting this new market! We will be closing down first street. We will have lits of farmers market type of vendors, craft vendors, and also Food vendors, and music ( live music at least once a month) I will also have a tent set up called the "education station" where we will have diffrent "classes" each week. Such add pottery making, cheese making, spinning, bee keeping, basket weaving and so on and so on.
If anyone is interested in being a vendor please contact me at [email protected]
Thanks again for the encouragement!
