tates creek...I was using my situation as an example. I am an intelligent person I know that not every child recieving free medical is as sick as my son, my point is that there are kids out there that are as sick as my son. I just get tired of people lumping everyone together. The collective attitude seems to be if you get any benefits you are no good and are ripping off the system. I was trying to show that it isn't really the case.

As far as my son's doctor goes I know exactly how it works. Medicaid doesn't pay anything even close to 6000 honestly a doctor is lucky if they get 20% from medicaid.

Part of the reason it is so high is because we see a doctor in a very service poor area. He is the only pediatric cardiologist around. When we went to UK it was cheaper and we did not recieve the same quality of care. I would rather drive 3 hours to see this doctor.

Pediatric cardiologist generally cost more than a normal cardiologist because they have specailized a little more. His 1800 office visit includes all testing that is done while we are there other then the echo and xray. Most Dr.s charge seperatly for pulse ox and for ekgs and these are included. We also see two doctors at each visit a surgeon and the regular ped cardioglogist normally you would be charged two office visits for that. This guy is one of the best cardiologist in the country, he graduated top of his class alongside another (considered the best) that runs a clinic in Seattle. Most of the time in this part of the state espically if the specialist is associated with UK the clincs (even specialist) are geared toward low income and services are given at a reduced rate.

The echo cost so much because of the sedation, we have to have a nurse with us the entire echo as well as the ultrasound tech. They also monitor his blood pressure and pulse ox through the entire procedure so for that we have 2 employees 3 procedures and a medication and we generally take up the room for 5 hours as well as the doctor reading the results. The echo results are included in the original office visit.

Each time we see the doctor it is a level 3 or 4 exam which is more expensive as well. Congenital heart defects are very compliacted. He has two defects and associated abnormalities. We are usually with the doctor 30-45 minutes each visit. That is the time he is actually in there with us NOT how long it takes for them to take us back and wait to see him. I doubt you spend that much time with the doctor.

His defects actually haven't been corrected yet so that complicates things further. I also didn't mention my son is a toddler so that makes things a little more difficult then if he were older as everything is compact into a tiny body and we have development and size/weight gain to contend with.

I am actually in the medical field myself and am very aware of how these things work. While my son's doctor maybe a little expensive it is well worth it even if I had to find a way to come up with the money on my own.

Jackie Neal,

Get your shit together first - clean up that place you rented out at 1089 Buffalo Hollow Road, Mt.Vernon, Ky - When you don't keep up a place, don't mow the yard, pay the trash bill, pay your utilities, knock out the windows, punch holes in the walls, ceilings, tear the cabinet doors off the cabinets, leave trash piled up on the porch to the point maggots are crawling on the porch in the nasty dog blankets; And take your two black labs to the vet that your boyfriend shot 8 times and feed them. Take them to the animal shelter, they're better off there. You can barely take care of yourself. When you behave like that you do make it hard on everyone else who rents or who has to rent.

If the original poster isn't Jackie Neal - Then this post isn't meant for you. If you behave like this, it's because everyone allows you to. Including the people that say they care about you. enough is enough, since the people that care about you are the ones that have to keep coming along wiping up your shit.

Lol no Idk any jackie but i agree that anyone who doesn't take care of their home shouldn't complain or bother for assistance. The system is abused enough by people who can make it on their own.
For myself either come spring if classes allow me to i will be working or definitely the summer but at the time i can't with having classes filled every day and no extra time for work and daycare help

Are you kidding me, we have enough hud people in Richmond now we are getting one more, I love how you said " I prefer 2 bedroom" I am sure you do since you will be getting it just about free. I am sick and tired of all the people on HUD because they are too lazy to work a full time job and pay what the actual rent is. Instead, you accomplish nothing and get free rent to, I am assuming you get food stamps, free day care and free medical. Congratulations...
I agree with u the ones DONt work should apply to this comment.. but I for one do work!!!! and a single mother who jus cant make it on her own without help! THe cos of living is crazy now!! So please reconsider ur comment n think of the ones that do work n make a living that still need help.:)

for your information i am a full time student trying to better myself and have been going to college since 2008. As in Richmond unlike most people I don't plan to stay on assistants so honestly you can go share your unwanted comments somewhere else. And if you like I will personally meet you and you can say this to my face any time.
The person who judged you without knowing you is typical of this area. Probably watches Faux News religiously and calls him/herself a "Christian." But the coward sure loves to get on topix and insult people behind the safe confines of a little computer monitor.

Keep up your hard work and determination in college and success will be yours. The insulting loser will be renting from you oneday.

I know a third generation family that lives in section 8 housing! The grandmother lives in one apartment, the daughter lives in the apartment beside that and the daughter lives in apartment building behind that! The aunt lives in the same complex as well. They all get food stamps, free medical care, a free cell phone and a free land line phone.

I've hooked up with each of them except for the grandmother. They will do anything for 40 bucks!

They each say that they are disabled but if you can give up the booty on a regular basis for money, then you should at least be able to work at a Circle K for crying out loud.

Whatever happened to the good old days?

Sad people always coming down on people you should be ashamed, glad you had it a better. I get HUD and work full-time and am working on my masters. That stereotyping stuff kills me. Prayn for ya... Sound jealous...

What I do for a living is none of your business but I do work and support myself and if i have to put in some overtime then thats what I do, I don't throw my hands in the air and run to the foodstamp office or section 8 office and look for an easy way out. Like most of you. The only people that get mad at what I say are the one's using the system. Now as for my children, I waited until I had a good job and could support them without begging the government to pay my way. There is a thing called condoms, you chose to get pregnant when you couldn't afford children, that is your selfish fault. I hope you are serious about an education.
Her baby's father was killed in an accident you heartless bitch... And for others sometimes you get pregnant and I love my babies wouldn't give them up for the world. People kill me so judgemental...

Loans that I've had to take out must be paid back for your information so I myself will be paying them back. I am 21 for that fact with a 7 month old daughter who's father was killed in a car accident while I was pregnant. So honestly I could careless what you think. I hope for your own good you never need help. Im not looking for a handout but while attending classes full time as a registered dietitian. Now what may I ask do you do for work? Since I doubt you will be making what I will when Im finished and I will help more people than you ever will. So have a nice life.
Liar! If you have HUD there is NO way you're not getting the Pell grant! You're not using loans! Lmao! But this shows that you're ashamed and feel bad for what you're taking so that's good.

Oh come on! How do you know that sob story is true? Every time I get on one of these forums the people on assistance get attacked due to their selfish entitlement mentality, and then lacking a good argument come up with sob stories. Maybe it is true, but I doubt it.

You sound more like a juvenile, "wanting to meet me and say it to my face" that is a term i used when I was in junior high. Going to college full time, Hmmmmm,,I seriously doubt it,,,but that was a good save. So, if you are going to college, who is paying for it, you sure can't be? Maybe the same tax payers that are going to pay for your free apartment???
Richmond Resident, you sound like a very bitter and hateful person. Can I introduce you to the One who died for your sins....Jesus Christ! He can take all that bitterness away and make you a joyful and loving person, having compassion and forgiveness to those who are less fortunate than you. Besides, you are just one bad decision or one bad turn of life events from being just where some of these people you are bashing are in life right now. Don't be so quick to judge those who you do not know. Don't be so quick to judge those who have gone through life experiencing things that you have no clue about. Show love and you will be respected and people will listen to you and maybe you will be blessed to have changed their life for the better.
