Im moving to Richmond next month and only places I could find are Richmond manor and Madison or whatever. Is there any other apartment complexes that accept hud? Does saddlebrook? Or does anyone know of any homes up for rent that accept hud? I would prefer a two bedroom if possible but I will check out any options. Thanks

Madison Avenue Apartments and North Second Street Apartments are both Section 8 Housing. You can check with the local income based housing office for applications for Smith Village, Robinson Terrace and Dillingham Heights. That office is located on the 1st floor of Willis Manor on Parrish Avenue. There are many houses/apartments in the area that accept HUD. Contact the local HUD office for a listing of landlords. I know that Hager Rentals has some HUD housing. If at all possible you would want to avoid Saddlebrook (used to be Richmond East Apartments). That's a pretty rough area. Hope this helps!

Not that I'm aware of. Berea used to have some income based housing, but I believe that complex went to full pay. Try Madison Avenue. I know there are some rough characters, but the housing is pretty nice. The landlord has been kicking the bad ones out on a pretty regular basis, so hopefully it will be cleaned up soon.

My daughter and I lived in Richmond manor while I was in school for 4 yrs and I loved it there. Very nice apartments and I felt safe there bc neighbors were always watching out for you :)

Agreed. That is also one of the "nicer" apartment complexes. They also offer larger apartments (4 bedrooms) which is difficult to find in income-based housing. The only problem I've noted in that area is that the pillbillys and trash from Turpin Drive are very close. I had a friend who lived on the first road in the Manor. Her car was broken into probably 3 times. The people was finally arrested, and they were from Sizemore.

Yes. It's been about 4 Years since I lived there but I lived on the side furthest from Turpin. Never had a problem with break ins but glad they caught the ones that did! I still have a friend that lives there and haven't heard of complaints lately! I lived in a 2 bedroom but I agree, the townhouses are very big!

Stay away from saddlebrook! Especially if you have kids! I moved there when my baby was 6 mths old. I wasn't on housing assistance but it was the cheapest place we could find on such short notice. The neighbors below us and beside us did drugs and dealt drugs and the people across from us were always beating on each other. The last straw for me was when I heard my neighbors druggie friend screaming that he was going to shoot everyone in the building if he didn't get his drugs back. I guess my neighbor had screwed him over on a drug deal or something. We called the cops. Nothing was done. We told the landlord. Nothing was done so we broke our lease and moved.

Turpin/Ballard/Sizemore should be avoided at all costs! Please don't even think about moving to that area unless you want to be robbed/mugged continually, sexually assaulted, and infested with roaches and bedbugs! The entire area should be condemned. I will not even consider doing home visits in that area unless I'm escorted by the police! The landlords that owns those buildings should be shunned by every resident of Madison County. Or should I have said slumlords....

Are you kidding me, we have enough hud people in Richmond now we are getting one more, I love how you said " I prefer 2 bedroom" I am sure you do since you will be getting it just about free. I am sick and tired of all the people on HUD because they are too lazy to work a full time job and pay what the actual rent is. Instead, you accomplish nothing and get free rent to, I am assuming you get food stamps, free day care and free medical. Congratulations...

for your information i am a full time student trying to better myself and have been going to college since 2008. As in Richmond unlike most people I don't plan to stay on assistants so honestly you can go share your unwanted comments somewhere else. And if you like I will personally meet you and you can say this to my face any time.

You sound more like a juvenile, "wanting to meet me and say it to my face" that is a term i used when I was in junior high. Going to college full time, Hmmmmm,,I seriously doubt it,,,but that was a good save. So, if you are going to college, who is paying for it, you sure can't be? Maybe the same tax payers that are going to pay for your free apartment???

Loans that I've had to take out must be paid back for your information so I myself will be paying them back. I am 21 for that fact with a 7 month old daughter who's father was killed in a car accident while I was pregnant. So honestly I could careless what you think. I hope for your own good you never need help. Im not looking for a handout but while attending classes full time as a registered dietitian. Now what may I ask do you do for work? Since I doubt you will be making what I will when Im finished and I will help more people than you ever will. So have a nice life.

Oh I forgot to mention I do hope if you have children or if you ever have children that you can afford to pay for their college without financial aid, but highly doubt it. I also doubt you've ever been to college since you didn't need no help paying the price of tuition and books, along with living expenses. Unless you were born with a silver spoon in that smart mouth of yours. Everyone needs help eventually. Its the ones who try to live on it for life is the problem. Also usually only ones able to do that are on ssi, as ktap or welfare is only available for 5 years of your life. The only reason I am even receiving the help I am is to get through college. Actually if Eastern ever would have their family housing available I would not bother with hud, but the vehicle I have isn't safe enough to drive two hours a day to Richmond every day for my classes so I must move there. So I hope you remember our conversation as it will one day hit you or your family members in the face when your staring at the same options.

I guess some ppl have something negative to say about everything. I also went to school full time and had a small child. Some of us aren't lucky enough to have everything handed to us by mommy and daddy and end up in bad situations. These things are all temporary to get ppl on there feet bc things do happen and I used them temporarily and I'm sure she plans to also. Are there ppl that abuse them? Absolutely! However, that doesn't mean everyone does!!!

Seriously, temporary??? How many of the section 8 are temps, they stay there as long as they can even after their children are grown and gone and as for food stamps, people stay on them their entire life.

What I do for a living is none of your business but I do work and support myself and if i have to put in some overtime then thats what I do, I don't throw my hands in the air and run to the foodstamp office or section 8 office and look for an easy way out. Like most of you. The only people that get mad at what I say are the one's using the system. Now as for my children, I waited until I had a good job and could support them without begging the government to pay my way. There is a thing called condoms, you chose to get pregnant when you couldn't afford children, that is your selfish fault. I hope you are serious about an education.
